Pourquoi pas toi Vally ? Le podcast complet vaut la peine d’être écouté. Il se lance également dans des analyses de statistiques et des analyses de joueurs impressionnantes.

I for one will just say that after listening to a few of his pods, I would hire this guy in a second. He knows the game and wants to take it to another level. He actually seems like the type of guy who could be a Steve Kerr or similar.

He says no but for enough money, you can convince anyone to do anything

If it’s about spending time with his kids, hire his kids as well.

I’ve been wondering all season why it seems like the coaching staff consists of the guys we see behind the bench and then a trainer and equipment manager and that’s it.

Why is it acceptable that Laf is still not a great skater, why isn’t there a skating coach permanently on staff?

Why is it acceptable that K’Andre is 6’5″ but lanky and doesn’t use his body, why isn’t there a strength training coach on staff?

Why is it acceptable that Panarin turns the puck over in the exact same way multiple times a game, why isn’t there a video review coach on staff?

How does the richest team in the league give the appearance of running like a peewee team being coached by volunteer dads?

Vally has said a couple of times over the season that Laf should get a skating coach on the off season and not be like he was early on in his NHL career where he took guitars lessons and golfed (or was it surfing?). Also – and this is a great point – Vally thinks that even when the kids are in the show, they still need to be carefully coached and not left to just figure it out. So rather than just trade first and second picks away, actually work harder with them to help the kids reach their full potentials. Listening to Vally continues to teach me so much about a game I love.

His point about shot passes off of pads and really breaking down what each player’s role is on the rush just sounds like string theory vs Gallant’s arithmetic. The idea of having a cogent system that plays to the strengths of individual players? Crazy.

Valiquette will go over in NHL locker rooms the same way Pierre McGuire did. Not sure why this sub is so obsessed over his analytics. I don’t see him commanding respect from a room and getting players to respond. He would be an absolute mistake to hire and Valiquette knows it, which is why he sticking to what he does, analytics.

I think you pay Vally a little extra to do some ops and analysis that’s fed straight to the team…but keep him on the broadcast and don’t have him behind the bench or anything.

Because Vally doesn’t want to do it

I haven’t listened to the podcast yet but I could see Steve as an excellent assistant coach. One of those guys who is a top #2 and the brains behind an organization. I could absolutely see him as a head coach someday, but I think even he would want some experience first.

This was a great podcast, I agreed totally with Vally about Laf and how he can still be a great player but really needs to have a strong offseason. Now, I love Vally, but having the first team someone coaches in their life being the New York Rangers, an original 6 team with a huge market is a little crazy. And thats not only his first NHL coaching job, thatd be his first HOCKEY coaching job, an assistant/ analytical coach maybe but I think he wants to be a family man anyway (which I totally understand and respect).

I think our best move when it comes to coaching is Knoblauch down in Hartford, he gives the Jay Woodcroft-type vibes where he can come in and instantly be a guy the locker room looks up to and wants to play for, while also being a good development coach for the kids. I think hes just about the only coach we could get right now that would actually give Laf-Mika-Kakko a look, which is a line I think could be very effective and finally add a step to Lafrenieres game, playing with a shooter and someone to cycle the puck.

I also don’t mind the idea of hiring a former Blueshirt who really cares for this organization such a Callahan (who’s currently an analyst), or maybe even Chris Drury seeing as hes apparently willing to give it to the team more than the actual head coach lmao
