Canes let’s go
It's the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs… Teams don't get here by accident… Jersey had a rough game, thanks in most part to Carolina dictating just about every minute of this game… But at the end of the day it's still just 1-0 in the series, and not over by a long shot… I want to see my Canes win it all this year, of course… But good teams rise to the occasion, and the Devils are a very good team… This isn't over by a long shot… Lost of work still to be done!

Game 1s when you have one team on a 48 hour break against a rested team usually ends one of two ways:
1. Rested team is too rested, the team that just finished a series is still wired up, and rested team is smoked.
2. Team that just finished is tired, rested team has more energy, rested team smokes them.
This was #2.
Friday's game will be tighter. Game 3 will be the true sign of how this series goes. NJ isn't out of it by a long shot. But they have work to do. They will have to adjust. And while I agree Ruff pulled Schmid to protect his psyche, which was the right move IMHO, Vanacek didn't play bad. So he might have backed into a situation where he has to choose a goalie. Kind of like Rod.
Canes fan here; we’re not the same as the Rangers and it was so old watching everyone pick New Jersey over us. We’ve been playing this way all year and guys are stepping up. The Devils will make adjustments and take a game or 2 but I think their inexperience will ultimately be their downfall as it is with nearly every young team deep in the playoffs
Let's just ignore the fact that the Devils had an emotional 7 game series win, then spent Monday night celebrating, flew out to Carolina the next day and had one single practice to prepare for the Canes. Carolina winning game 1 was the most predictable result of these playoffs and the rest of the series should be a lot closer, especially if Meier is back.
The Devils did lose the first 2 against the Rangers 5-1 also. What's the news here?

After seeing my Rangers demise at the hands of jersey, I was shocked when I watched this game. This series is going to be a helluva ride
Rangers dominated NJ 5-1 twice, and crushed them in game 6 too. The issue was the Rangers wouldn’t show up to play like that every game. I think Carolina is more mentally strong than the Rangers, and I can’t see them refusing to show up in more than 1 game.
Thank you for stating that our injuries at the time don't matter.. That's all I've seen the past few days.. No pacioretty, svech, and teravainen.. While they make our team all the more lethal if you will.. We've done well considering.. Game one down.. 3 more to win then it's move on. Not taking ANYTHING away from the Devils.. Everyone has a rough night now and again and you KNOW they're eager for game 2.. It's going to be a great series
Devils fan..Canes absolutely smoked us the first period..we played better as the game went on but still didnt look comfortable..yea we didnt have Timo but they're also missing Svech, Patch, Teuvo
Devils played horrible I admit it but omfg Wes and his clowns are so bad at officiating. Even if they did make the calls they should've made I still the Canes would've won
Canes fan. When you play against Carolina, you are playing against Rod’s system. It’s next man up and they are very good at that. Ultimately it’s game one and it could be a long series. We are not the Rangers. We are built for close games and deep runs. Much respect for NJ and what accomplished this season. Carolina has been battle tested over the last 5 years and will not go out easy. I will just try to enjoy the ride.
Should be a long exciting series after this game. Both these teams are really good.
AS A HURRICANES FAN FOR 24 YEARS, THESE PAST 5 SEASONS HAVE BEEN OUR BEST BY FAR. OUR ISSUE IS NEVER DEFENSE, IT IS GOALTENDING AND OFFENSE. WHEN WE WON THE CUP IT WAS OUR BEST OFFENSIVE LINES WE HAVE EVER HAD. THROUGHOUT THE SEASON I SAW THE SAME ISSUES BUT THE POST SEASON HAS LOOKED BETTER FOR US. THE GUYS WHO NEED TO STEP HAVE BEEN DOING JUST THAT AND WE STILL HAVE DEFENDERS WHO KNOW HOW TO SHOOT. THE DEVILS ARE A YOUNG, FAST TEAM BUT IF THEY CAN'T ADAPT TO THE CANES DEFENSE AND EXPERIENCE THEN THEY ARE DONE. THIS WILL FALL ON THE COACHING, 100%
I'm a Devils fan, Canes played great and the Devils looked like they were asleep in the 1st period. I'm expecting this to be a long tough series
Carolina needs to win game 2 and grab one in jersey… they look faster, stronger, and more experienced than jersey but NJ has top tier talent, speed, and grit. This could go as quick as 5 but I’m expecting 7
Canes have 6 more games to get 3 more wins. I expect things to get closer, but I don’t think NJ is going to get more than 3 wins out of those 6 barring catastrophic attrition to the Canes’ blue line. I’m standing by my prediction of Canes in 6.

I think NJ was hungover from just beating NYR 2 days before. Devils will be better second game. This is what happened the first series and how did that turn out.
Canes fan. I was glad to see the team started so quickly after the extra 3 days off. I’ve seen those days off bite teams before as they have too much time away from real game action. I think this first game was definitely ours to take with those extra days off & the Devils coming off a tough 7 game series with only 1 day off before this game. I’m glad we took advantage of the opportunity, but I’m not going to say we’re going to have the jump on the Devils for every game in the series.
Canes have had 5 days off. Devils only 1. I think devils will come out hot game 2 and 3. Also refs were awful this game. Missed high stick that drew blood, face off violation and before the 3rd goal martinook ripped devils defensemen helmet off. Just ridiculous imo. No way am I saying if devils got these calls they would have won but refs need to be held accountable. Changed tide of games

The Devils lost the first two games 5-1 against the veteran stacked NY Rangers…and won the series. If you are already writing off the Devils against a much better rested Carolina team, then you’re a fool.
