  1. Hopefully there will be some changes. It will be hard with how little cap they have. Obviously, some players won’t return because of salary cap Implications. it is a huge disappointment that this team lost in the first round after a historic season. That was their last chance. I mean who knows if Krejci and Bergeron wants to come back

  2. Selke trophy name should be changed after Bergeron retires. Assuming Bergeron retires, and they can't convince Krejci to come back for another year, huge problems ahead…Guys like Ullmark, Hall, and Coyle have contract clauses making them tough to move. They can't afford to keep Orlov or Bertuzzi if no trades to get cap space, only 1 year left on Debrusk's deal, they have no 1st or 2nd round picks for the next 2 drafts, have to find space to sign Swayman, whew…GM went all in for the last dance, but Panthers crashed the party long before the song was over… now what?

  3. Good on you Mark Borowiezki…..hell of a way to make a living in the NHL and you did it as good as most tough guys in the league. All the best in retirement.

  4. if i'm boston, i give serious thought to trading ullmark at the height of his value. many teams would be interested, including possibly his former one. also: ottawa, LA, detroit, carolina, columbus, maybe NJ, and pittsburgh. i'd suggest my habs if we were playoff contenders now, but we're not that yet.

and trade the negotiating rights for whatever UFAs you can. someone will want in early on players like orlov and bertuzzi.

sign swayman before free agency opens, or he might get an offer sheet. again, i'd suggest it for us, but we don't have our own 2024 2nd, and i think we'd need that.

  5. This bruins team had a great regular season. Not as good of course as the 1970/71 Bruins who won 57 games in regulation while only playing 78. this team was great winning 54 in regulation out of 82 games played. Grade inflation doesn't actually make you any smarter or in this case better during the NHL regular season.
Amusingly enough that all time great Bruin regular season team lost in the first round to the Montreal Canadiens that year.
Boston was always going to look much different coming out of this season. When your core at center is two players , Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci, who lead you to your last Stanley cup victory back in 2011 you know changes are coming. Bergeron with the bad back pretty well has to retire. Krejci , if he continues to play in the NHL , I'd expect to play for more than the million he signed for this year. if he makes more than a million he has to play somewhere else.
The bruins have 65$ million dedicated , 69$ million if you include the 4 $ million in bonus overages, to a line up of 1. David Pastrnak 2. Brad Marchand 3.Taylor Hall 4. Charlie Coyle 5. Jake DeBrusk 6. Pavel Zacha 7. Charlie Mcavoy 8. Hampus lindholm 9. Brando Carlo 10. Matt Grezlyck 11. Jake Zboril 12. Mike Reilly 13. Linus Ullmark.
The defense looks solid but that is a lot of holes to fill with around $14 million. UFA's: Tyler Bertuzzi, Dmitri Orlov, Connor Clifton, Garnet Hathaway, and Tomas Nosek RFA': Jeremy Swayman ,

There is a lot of talk of moving out Taylor Hall (31)and his 61 GP and 36 PTS for two more years at $6 million but I think it will prove harder to move that often injured, 31 year old's money than people may think. There also seems to be a sentiment to move the Vezina trophy winning Linus Ullmark and his $5 million contract out the door but that feels more like knee jerk anger than a rational plan. I expect the organization to keep Ullmark and try to resign Swayman at some reasonable number. A competent tandem is always superior to trying to run on one goalie.
The Bruins team should still be fine on defense and in nets. they will struggle to fill the gaps at center next year.
Hall will not be enough for Scheifele, by far. Think Hall and a first and A resigned Connor Clifton. Winnipeg needs defensemen.

  6. Love to see ottawa offer sheet swagman. Doesn’t have to be long term but for a few years so we can see what we have in the system.

  7. hopefully bergeron and krejci come back for league minimum, they still have some gas in the tank. give it one more shot. the bruins owe them that.

  8. The Bruins are in a pretty terrible position. Perhaps the worst position any teams ever been in coming off of a presidents trophy. They have a shallow prospect pool. They have a massive cap penalty. They have virtually no trade assets that don't have no trade clauses. And they have a ton of empty slots. Bergeron and Krejci both virtually assured to retire. The entire fourth line free agents. They can't afford to bring back any of the guys they traded for at the deadline. They can't afford to bring back Clifton who had a rough playoff but proved to be a legit top four dman last year. Someone's going to pay him 4m. Boston can't do it. Going to struggle to sign Fredric and Swayman. I'm not sure they can bring back either. Swayman is virtually assured going to have to have his rights traded at the draft. Frederic proved he had more upside then just a 4th line winger. They probably can't afford to pay a guy with 3rd line center upside.
As heart breaking as it would be to lose both Bergeron and Marchand in the same off season they should probably be trying to convince Brad to waive his no trade. He's the only asset they have that would free up cap and would get you a good return. Pretty much anything else that would free up cap would cost you assets to move.

  9. Bergeron and krejci they need to just call it a career when they got inserted into the lineup this postseason we lost all three games there's a reason for that those guys are done they play better without them they need to get rid of them thank you for your service but it's time to go and now we need to go after a goaltender the Bruins need a real goaltender

  10. ** Krejci is from and played a season in the Czech Republic. Not Chechnya. Good analysis otherwise.

  11. Born on Boston I've been watching the bruins since 1963 with my father, it was a historic year and although it kills me they got beat, they still had a remarkable year, up 3 to 1 then losing 3 was tough but it happens, they've been on the other side of that before, that's just the nature of the game. Thank you Bruins for a memorable season.
