I think marner can be a great playoff player but not in toronto for whatever reason he becomes different once playoffs begins, he just reeks of nervous energy and always seems anxious. Hes putting too much pressure on himself, i thought this would change once they passed the 1st rd but it seems not and it really is a shame cause hes one of the best players to put on the blue and white.

While I 100% agree that the effort from these guys is unacceptable, Keefe not making adjustments is a problem too.

Seems the simplest and most obvious change to the top 6. But not once has it been tried these playoffs, despite regular season success. Nope, just keep trucking out the same lines over and over and hoping for something different.

Simple and straight to the point.
A true work of art.

The thing about Marner is, he’s incredibly talented, but he has almost no physical element to him.
Florida just has to body him off the puck or out of position and he becomes a non issue.
This is why you shouldn’t pay $11m for a scronny type in modern hockey. He’s getting eaten alive out there.

Put them all on the same line for the next game, and tell them it’s their responsibility to win the game. If they can’t do it, we don’t need them. If they can, then hopefully they’ll have learned how to win in the playoffs.
This will have a secondary impact of not polluting our other lines with players who aren’t playing well.

The predicament is when Marner plays well we win, and when he doesn’t we lose.
Which leads to the conversation does it make sense to trade him. If you can’t win with him, how do you win without him? The easiest solution for years, and one that Babcock employed, was to keep Matthews and Marner separated. That way you can’t shut them both down at the same time.
We will have 5 playoff series under Keefe after this one ends. We have 1 series win, that also happens to be the only series Matthews and Marner were separated.
There’s enough blame to go around, but Keefe has set this team up for failure every single playoffs since he got here.

The detail you have put into Matthews forehead has me rolling this morning. Especially the wrinkle to hairline ratio.

Marner left a bad taste in my mouth ever since his father was negotiating his contract. He’s good but if he can’t produce when necessary he’s useless. I’m in for a Marner trade. Furthermore I’m not married to any player. Make some god damn moves and let’s get a team that has fire in their belly.

We are on a Stanley Cup run and our third string goalie is in net. I’m not saying Woll is/was the problem at all, but I just feel a position as important as goal was to be filled by Matt Murray……. And then our 1 year backup in Samsonov….. and now look at where we are? This team is a travesty. So much talent but no heart.

Man I want these guys to win, we’ve been rooting for them all these years, they seem like decent guys too, but it still seems like the same old same old in the playoffs except now it feels like they delayed the inevitable just a few games…

GAME 1 of Tampa Series showed us everything we needed to see about this « new team ». Bandaids of March 2023 don’t cover up the true DNA. No guts…..and that starts with Dubas who doesn’t have the guts to move on from Keefe and a bunch of villagers from the Soo. And let’s also hold Shanahan accountable because he knows what it takes to win in the playoffs and Harry Potter and Blenders of pretty boys ain’t it.

Amazing job AGAIN. Btw I don’t understand Marner. He must be injured, cause he’s normally a dominant, smart player. Maybe the aggression of the playoffs is getting to him

None of these guys have shown any emotion whatsoever during games 1-3. Do they even care? Get mad, show some kind of emotion when things aren’t going your way. Doesn’t help that Robocaptain is the most emotionless plug on the team.

It’s the next day after the loss. I’m not even mad anymore. Not trying to even make jokes about their care level. I’m at the point now envisioning this core changed up next year. Thinking of the ones no longer here and thinking what an opportunity lost. We always knew how good this core was and we already know that whoever leaves is going to be an integral part of the other teams cup run. I don’t blame dubas in believing in them, I certain did. These players are elite, Marner setting leaf records this year and matthews last year setting the most goal in fucking maple leafs history. They’re supposed to be phenoms, they’re supposed to be more than enough. Which is why I know next year after the trades we’ll be trying to do more with less because we won’t be getting returns of players who will be as good as these guys are supposed to be, as good as we know they are. When I do try to make sense of why things are this way with these guys wearing leaf jerseys, I go back to questioning why we gave these guys leadership responsibilities earlier in their careers. We almost made Matthews captain. I can’t ever see how that is healthy for players in a market like the Toronto maple leafs. Who knows if things like these added up to create a locker room environment, set up for failure. All I can say is what an opportunity lost, these guys will thrive on new teams

Well done. You captured Marner’s fear nicely. Maybe a tear dripping down his cheek would help.
