Matthew’s is like Ovechkin. He will take a few more years to grow up and be a team player. Marner is not willing to get greasy enough to win. Tavares avoids contact and is rarely in the hard places to score in playoff situations.
There were those who complained that the Leafs didn’t “deserve” to beat Tampa, which was so funny I almost couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
The irony is, that the same people who don’t want to give this roster credit for a victory this year, completely ignored the fact that they didn’t deserve to lose in any of the three previous season’s playoff losses.
The Leafs were by far the better team against Columbus three years ago, they just got goalied.
The Leafs destroyed the Canadiens, lost twice in overtime, and outplayed them in seven out of seven games.
Last year against Tampa the Leafs were denied a fourth win by the referees of game six, and out played the Lightning vastly in game seven, only to be set down by Andrei Vasilievskiy’s best ever game.
In all three seasons, the Leafs “deserved” to go to round two, so if they got a bit lucky this year in round one (no one is denying it) then it was just a balancing of their Karmic Ledger.
Though, apparently not, because they have been horribly unlucky against the Panthers.
They have – minimum – seven posts so far in this series, and even though they are being goalied by the most unlikely of goalies, the sheer amount of posts and crossbars they’ve hit is baffling.
They were the better team in both games one and two, and deserved to be up 2-0, not down 2-0.
I have allways been miffed when the leafs get knocked out…. However this is the only year that they made me feel embarrassed to be a leaf fan… trade matthews he is a bum.great when games mean nothing and invisible when games mean everything… don’t let him walk for nothing trade his butt now

Man Toronto had an almost 20 year head start on Seattle and in that span of time the Kraken have still won more games than the Leafs have in the second round
too much cap space for 4 players. the O/T goal is a testament to the calibre of players that aren't making 8 figures. reinhart went through all 5 of them untouched around the back of the net, untouched and scored the winner. easiest goal he's ever scored and the biggest of his career.
They need to blow up the core 4, they havent done crap for like 3-4 years. They should also revamp that D core, half of the defenseman cant even get the puck out of the zone. Get guys who are willing to forecheck and are willing to do the dirty work and win puck battles in the corner.
If leafs win game 4 they will all be heroes again to the people writing comments. Lol
If they play their heart out and still lose I can live with that and still proudly cheer for them but I really don't see much effort.

If this is going to end in four games, the only playoff performance improvement the Leafs gifted their incredible fans is that after 19 years of playoff underachievement the Leafs for the first time in 19 years went from three playoff games won to now four playoff games won….

I'm very glad that the Leafs beat Tampa but the effort just isn't there against the Panthers.
Hope they can find some effort, passion and heart Wednesday night and win.

Toronto Maple Leafs are always the only maple leafs in Canada that fall every spring! Oh I believed it!! I believe Toronto is never going to win the cup again!
the problem with Toronto is their culture. it is not a winning one or a demanding one within the organization. they dont pitch every last effort out there, ever. Matthews and Marner are arguably two of the top 10 forwards in the world, and you would not know it watching them in the playoffs. for them and others to struggle to score agaisnt Florida, or even get chances in Game 3 is just abysmal. there is no excuse.
Why keep Dubas and Keefe around? The GM has no experience let alone a winning track record and the coach has no NHL experience and has not motivated his team to win in the playoffs. Why keep them around, because there nice guys? Does the Toronto organization want to give their fans a winning team or not?

ATTN MLSE OR "WHOEVER"— The performance of your "core four" players is unacceptable and nothing seems to be working regarding the Leafs. Here is my solution….. Get the team staff to a grocery store down in Sunrise ASAP and purchase boxes of General MIlls "Wheaties" for the players. Any sports professional will tell you that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and Wheaties has been "The Breakfast of Champions" for one hundred years and I know firsthand that a Wheaties breakfast can make a big difference in the way you feel throughout your day. What have you got to lose at this point??? Sadly, Wheaties is not sold in Canada and that might be the problem to begin with regarding a nutritious breakfast for the Toronto Maple Leaf players. You can't beat whole grain wheat! Furthermore, Toronto Maple Leafs' president Brendan Shanahan knows very well the efficacy of a Wheaties breakfast because he was a spokesman for Wheaties back in the late-1990's. I'm surprised that Mr. Shanahan hasn't picked up on this nutrition strategy that is not widely known amongst Canadians because of General MIlls' refusal to sell Wheaties in Canada. The Maple Leafs have two breakfasts to go before Game 4. My advice to the team— Get to a Florida grocery store ASAP and "Better eat your Wheaties!". — John
