From Huberdeau interviews in Quebec, he said many players including him didn't like the way Sutter was using them, they were lost as to what their role was. Craig Conroy was one in management that had been asking for Sutter to be fired for many months. And apparently, Sutter didn't get along with Treliving, he was the owner's choice and Treliving had his hands tied because of it. if you understand french, there are a couple a good new interviews with Huberdeau, worth listening to them.
Darryl Sutter made a host of questionable coaching decisions this past season, and you can argue his usage of Huberdeau was among them. But in Sutter's limited defence, Huberdeau stunk all season, and was played with a wide variety of linemates and showed zero chemistry with any of them. How is a coach supposed to use a player like that?
Huberdeau 55 points …. END OF STORY.
He played with Duclair and Bennet for the majority of those points …
He was toxic you could see that
I don’t blame the players. Sutter made terrible decisions all season.
Throwing the lines in a blender after the oilers loss, playing huberdeau in the wrong position most of the season, only giving Phillips a few minutes to prove himself, Lucic on the second line, giving Richie a crucial penalty with the season on the line, his refusal to give any of the talented young players a chance until it was too late, the disrespectful comments about the players in interviews. The list goes on.
When you add to that the boring style of hockey he insisted on I’m glad he got fired.
