Injuries can happen to any player obviously, but the fact that we’re starting one of our AHL goalies in an elimination game shows that the Murray trade was a mistake from Day 1.
I’m ok with this. I assume Matt Murray told him how to come in and win a couple of cups as a rookie goalie with very little NHL experience.
Finally a good decision.
I kinda want Murray to start tomorrow.

Hope Sammy is okay but Woll has been solid all season. Don’t feel nervous about him in net at all. Actually feel good about this change up.

Woll and Samsonov are vastly different goaltenders. I’m hoping Woll’s quietness in net will help the team. Samsonov is wild like Cujo was… and I love it, but maybe this change will be a good thing.

I guess this shows how low they think of Murray. He’s healthy enough to back up but not good enough to start?
Or maybe they think he’s rusty from only practicing so much?
I’ve been saying samsonov is over committing to make the initial save so often and the book on him is well understood at this point. Crash the net and generate rebounds, and you’ll get minimum 3/game past him. Think Woll should have gotten the crease in game 5 or 6 of round 1. I guess we’ll get to see if I know anything. I hope I’m right and we at least get to game 6, preferably pull off the impossible and reverse sweep but I know better than to have any expectations at this point.

Murray should be starting. He isn’t injured anymore and good in the playoffs. Why did the leafs trade for him in the first place if they don’t play him when it counts? He is literally a playoff goalie.. I would go with experience in this case

Matt Murray on the bench and a rookie in the net. Why did they even get Murray then? I’m not saying I want him in the net but they got him and he sits on the bench for the playoffs. They should have just went with Samsonov and Woll for the year. They don’t want Murray to start because he’ll start the game, play 6 minutes, fall on his ass and concuss himself again and leave Woll out to dry.
Horrible trade again that we’ll have to trade a first rounder to someone to get rid of the contract or eat it for a year and then tying up resources.
I haven’t been a Dubas detractor but maybe he does have to go. Add it to the list of questionable trades and signings.

Fuck it. All epic playoff runs have a story like this. If he steps up, this is poetic. If he doesn’t, they were down 3-0 anyways and it was always unlikely. Let’s see what happens.

I honestly think Woll is the best goalie in the system, despite the fact that Samsonov earned the start over the season.
Who’s backup? Murray? OHL goalie?
Shocking reverse sweep incoming? Or just a swing to get the kid some more playoff experience?
Either way. I don’t feel the goaltending has been the issue. Call up Dave Ayers for all that it matters – nobody will notice. If we see 7 Leafs goals, then we can start looking at the crease again.

I’ve been a big Woll fan since we drafted him.
I’m kinda pumped he’s in. I have more faith in him having a solid game than my nerves going to shit wondering if we get good Sammy or all over the place Sammy.
Also…a Sammy/Woll combo next year would make me pretty happy.
I don’t think he’s ready. That OT goal showed a lot. That’s a routine save for any bonafide starter in this league.
