They’ve been outscored 32-7 in their 6 playoff losses. That’s quite the feat.
if we get nowhere with negotiations with bratt this offseason, i wonder what the logistics of a zegras + gibson trade would be. zegras, allbeit younger is also an rfa this offseason, i dont see why we couldnt put together a package for them that benefits both teams.
then again i am bratt’s #1 hater
Vitek sucks
Learned how to win a playoff series this year. Next step IMO is learning how to hang around when it’s not their night.
What if Lindy plays 3D chess and starts Blackwood in gm 5 to scare the team into being more disciplined and smart with/hard on the puck? MB29 could have the ultimate redemption arc!
To be clear….I’m not in favor of anyone but Akira but I gotta admit seeing the fanbase’s reaction to it would be a riot. Blackwood would either go down in flames or emerge triumphant, either would be a fitting (probable) end to his Devils tenure lol
All year this team had a knack for not playing a full 60 minutes of hockey, but usually were good enough to pull out wins anyway. But when you start to take time off during playoff games we see how these scores can just absolutely balloon. We’re honestly lucky Carolina played their worst game of hockey in months on Sunday, because without that 8 goal explosion we’d be talking a lot more about those 3 shorties we gave up.
We are missing the piece of a dependable goalie. It’s not our year
Fabian Zetterlund would never have let this happen 😢
I actually want to see Blackwood start next game.
Stop blaming the goaltending. Do you think Carolina has great goaltenders? Do you think if we swapped goalies with them in all these games we win the 5-1, 6-1, and 6-1 losses. No chance.
1st off. The Canes are a really good team, we are not nearly in a situation like Toronto or Boston. At all. Or last years Panthers.
The trading for a goalie talks are silly. Develop Akira, promote Brunette to HC, get a better PP coach, and let’s see what the coaching staff does to adjust strategies. They’ll need to replace Tatar, but that shouldn’t be to hard. In addition to a young team, there are also guys still in their 1st season here.
You don’t just slap a goalie in net, the team needs time to understand his strengths and weaknesses and Akira hasn’t been around nearly long enough for that. He should definitely be the 1A next year. Sry VV.
Pretty clear areas to improve in what could be a wide open Metro next year. The staff now has a playoff sample size to see what works and what doesn’t.
1 trade I might be interested in is if Toronto wants to retool, i wonder if a package with Bratt for Nylander is possible, depending on the package. Probably not.
– Bahl is young and on his 1st year full time
– Marino in his 1st year as a Devil
– Timo less then 50 games
– Palat 1st year, injury bugged like Dougie’s
– Luke will be a huge upgrade over Graves
– the younger players will only improve
– Develop Akira, build defensive strategies around him
– PP coach
– Not even mentioning Nemec or other prospects
**Angry statements**
I really don’t even know what to say.
Lindy going to start Vitek game 5 just to spite us all
Who is your ideal coach to replace Ruff? In a fantasy world, wouldn’t mind a DeBoer reunion. Lindy is a fine hockey professional but his lack of strategic flexibility and poor special teams is not going to get us to that next level.
That was a rough night. If you know me you know I never ever blame the tendies…but tonight this was on our goaltending as much as anyone else. The boys started put low energy as hell even though they didn’t exactly come out flat. The bench looked like they didn’t want to be there at all. A moment of life appeared when vitek made a big save in period one but it fell flat quickly and stayed dead. There was no fight even as individual players would find it for a sec and then pffft.
On a positive note luke looked fantastic. He’s the real deal. He’s young, still green as hell but man oh man does the idea of lukey boy and Nemec on our blue line make me feel all sorts of ways
Does anyone else feel like Carolina was our worst matchup of all of the remaining playoff teams? I watch these other games and no one plays like Carolina does. Obviously it’s impossible to know and an exercise in futility, but Carolina completely takes us out of our game while I don’t think any of these other teams would really do that to us. Maybe Florida with how they’re playing right now?
Also sidenote…lots of lopsided, high scoring games this year or is that me too? Lots of blowouts.
The most frustrating part for me is not the losses, it’s the WAY they’re losing and the fact that it seems to keep happening the exact same way. I mean, this is LITERALLY the 3rd time now we’ve seen them score first and then give up 5 unanswered. The coaching staff has to find an answer for that after the first or at least second time. To just sit there and let it snowball after seeing it happen multiple times is just negligent to me. Call your timeout earlier. Make your goaltending change earlier. Try SOMETHING different. Then if it fails at least you tried. At this point now I just hope that the boys at least go down fighting to the end.
Might as well start Blackwood next game
Can we all calm down for a minute and remember how fucking great VV was for us during the season? So what, he’s not good at Playoff hockey? That shouldn’t mean we ditch him entirely like some of y’all are suggesting. Every player has strengths and weaknesses, and while it sucks that he hasn’t been showing up for us during the playoffs, that shouldn’t discount the fact that we wouldn’t even have made it to the post season if it wasn’t for his stellar play during the year.
We’re a young team, we’re only going to be better, and learning experiences are good. Losing the playoffs after such an incredible season with brilliant goaltending by BOTH VV and Schmid is not the end of the world. And our goaltending isn’t the only thing costing us these games, so let’s stop laying all the blame on the goalies.
We can’t get better at playoff hockey unless we learn where our weaknesses are. And losing, while it sucks to experience, gives us that valuable information so we can go into next season (and hopefully post-season) that much better and more skilled. That goes for everyone on the team, both goalies and skaters.
And hey, we still kicked the Rags’ asses and I’ll take that and call the post-season a success.
I’m honestly not convinced Bratt is more than a 6.5M player
It’s actually sickening that we’ve been blown out in all 6 losses. They better show up on Thursday.
Kind of crazy that we’ve actually made it into the 2nd round of the playoffs but have lost playoff games 5-1, 5-1, 5-2, 5-1, 6-1, and 6-1. We’ve had no close losses, just six humiliations. And somehow it’s actually a successful year in terms of the playoffs haha.
I didn’t even watch when I saw its VV. Call it 20/20 hindsight but I was pretty vocal before the match that VV is not it. Must be the worst playoff record to let in at least 4 goals every single game of the playoffs. The 8:4 covered up a terrible golie performance. Woke up to a 6:1 and I’m not surprised in the least. VV is a great guy and had a good regular season, but it was clear before the game that he’s not in the state to win us any games. Start Schmid and swim or drown with it. At least it will give him expirience for the future. Schmid has the mental fortitude to deal with losses and bounce back while VV has been in the mental dumpster sadly for quite some time 🙁
This year has been a hell of a lot of fun and a big step forward. I don’t want to see regression. We need to add via subtraction and find a legitimate starting goalie. Right now we have three back up goalies.
It’s not the fact that we’re losing games that makes me angry, it’s how we’re losing games.
This is the team that led the league in comeback wins in the regular season. Now, when they’re down two goals, they roll over and die. I just can’t wrap my head around it.
Yoooo we about to FUCKING RALLY IN RALEIGH MUTHAFUCKAS
Basically played one of the worst games I’ve ever seen from a pro team in a big moment. We aren’t ready this year.
Also fuck what most of you haters say. At this point the only option is seeing if blacky can spark the team and prove he is worthy of his roster spot. Time to let all I want for Christmas is my two front teeth have a chance for a redemption tour. Last two years Fitz said he is equal to jack and captain as our young core. And I think if given the opportunity he can save this series like Schmid did last round. Come on boys I don’t want to shave my fucking face!
Yeah, ruff going qith vitek was a terrible move.
Also, i know this is a young team, but more questions need to be asked how we can get absolutely killed in half the games this postseason. What are the coaching team foing to have them ready to play
A lot of 2012 Flyers Devils series vibes from this where Carolina is the Devils and we’re the Flyers.
Well, at least maybe we have to pay Bratt a bit less
Whether game five our last game, or if we still have a story left to tell, I do not want Vanecek in goal until the season is over.
Didn’t need to add Meirer at the deadline, what we needed was goaltending and vet D man.
We proved in the regular season we could out score teams, we needed better defense.
I honestly think a lot of the Luke hate is coming from outside of the fanbase. Yes he was bad tonight but I don’t think Devils fans are this eager to hate on him. We all expected a 19 year old to make mistakes. But there’s no way Devils fans have turned on him this quickly
I think there’s a lot of non-Devils fans looking to pounce. One fan base in particular
Schmid for game 5 with Blackwood backing up please
