I think at the time that Malkin was new to the NHL, he was in the same situation as Drai. He has a really awesome player on his side to keep him from going down. I'm a big Penguins fan, but maybe I agree that Drai is better than Malkin in his prime.

This is what happens when you give your net to a homegrown player (ala Woll, or dare I say Cam Ward?) and then find the d-man to supplement your young core. Malkin has a Smyth. He was the second best in the world too. There just wasn't as much goals scored at all during their cup runs, especially the first two, but he led the league anyway. But yeah Leon is top of the league, and it's coming for them but they need rings and Smythes not just points to be even for their Era let alone pass those 2. There are a ton of 80s early 90s scorers that had more goals and points at times then malkin but only a couple dominates their era enough to go to 4 finals, win 3, and be named mvp of 1 of those 3. Crosby being the other 2. But if they win in 08 malkin might have 2 con trophies. Everyone makes it way too easy to pass malkin, not yet, needs to do a lot to pull even in Era dominance.

He's better than Malkin in the same way McDavid is better than Sid: he's not. If you look at nothing but points, McDavid is the best player ever. And that's the only way anyone would take Draisaitl over Malkin, if they literally just looked at points per game. These guys still don't have a single cup.
So back to back playoff series against the diving yet dirty Kings has impacted one of McDavid or Draisaitl for a years playoffs. That's great for hockey. Both series I said "if they let this go on one of the stars is going to get hurt". Right both times. Anyway, great stuff as always Johnny.
