Mercer’s 1 timer in game 5 will be what I remember from these playoffs. The team will be back and stronger.
Canes fan in peace. 1st, the Devils are an AMAZING team with so much talent. There is no doubt about your future. 2nd, you folks, the Devils fans, have earned my deep respect. You are respectful, intelligent and friendly to other fans. Hold your heads up high. You team has a bright future.
Give McLeod a goddamn raise
Nico has cemented himself as a true leader and captain
This post game thread is unexpectedly good natured. Well done
Rangers fans really obsessed with us 😂😂😂
The series ended Tuesday night. Tonight was just about opening a bottle of whiskey and going down with the ship.
Besides a few changes here and there. I’d really like to see what this roster can do with a different coach, before making significant moves like trading Bratt.
Is it too early to be talking about free agents and if Akira is our answer in net? I was pulling for MB29 to get one game after the Canes gaped us out all series long, but AS40 shows promise.
End of season thoughts
What a freaking season, massive turnaround exceeded expectations by far
We finally have players that we can build around, and almost everybody (looking at you -9 Hamilton) earned their contract in the postseason
Resign Timo, Haula and Tatar. They are absolutely instrumental to this team and would be great to keep around
Regarding Bratt: he’s a young 24 year old who’s given us back to back 73 point seasons and has a brother who was once in this organization. I can tell he likes it here. Does he deserve 9 million? No way. But I’m not opposed to paying a shorter term deal say 4-5 years on a 6-7 million dollar contract. He’s only 24 years old, has a lot of hockey ahead of him and shouldn’t be written off due to his performance in the first time this core played the playoffs together.
Goaltending: Wow Schmidooooooo. It’s deja vu but we may have a young goaltender again who is really good. Let’s just hope he stays that way. I also wouldn’t mind the Vezina finalist waiting for us in Winnipeg either. Sorry hibachi man.
Overall incredible season, I can’t believe all we have to do is wait the summer months. Hockey is incredible and truly the greatest sport on earth. Go Devils!
Good news, by failing to reach the conference finals we retain our 2024 first round pick!
Ugh, what tough way to lose the season. Devils were controlling that OT and felt like a matter of time. Then the self inflicted penalty.
Heart breaking because we finally saw the teams go toe to toe, but too little too late on the Devils end.
Still, they had a hell of a year and proud of them. Farthest they gone in a decade, in a year where they were essentially counted out from the get go. This stings, but Devils always play best with a chip on their shoulders, so hopefully they take this into next year with them.
Immediate thoughts and reactions:
-This was the most fun season in such a long time. It was a great ride and I love what this team gave us.
-The core is there to make multiple cup runs, but we are lacking in some key areas.
-Akira did a great job in a tough spot. He has potential, but overall, we don’t have what we need in goal to compete in the playoffs. While Akira develops, we need a proven commodity who can keep us in tight playoff games.
-We need more physicality on the ice. The better teams in the league can knock our skill players off the puck at will. We shouldn’t compromise our speed game, but we need fast, complimentary players who can keep the forecheck going, absorb hits, and deliver hits.
-Bratt can go. And, while on paper, Timo is the kind of player we need in terms of physicality, he has really not delivered. To me, we signed him and risked a rental situation to win games like this. To sink that shot when it came his way. And, just generally, he has looked out of sync since he got here.
-We need more creativity and consistency on the power play.
-Not sure you can fire Lindy after this season, but his judgement in starting Vanacek last game was bad. Still, this was a great season and I think he’s earned another shot if he wants it.
-Our window has opened, and it looks like it will stay open for a while, but we need to maximize every personnel decision to give us the best shot at winning it all. Carolina was the better team, but I felt like we still didn’t play to our potential, and that can’t happen again moving forward. If we lose and play our game, that’s one thing, but there were so many games in this postseason where we left a lot of opportunities unrealized or just plain didn’t show up.

Still, this was a fun season and it was a great feeling to be competing again at the top of the league.
In reality, we (the fans) were the only ones that thought the Devils would make the playoffs. We had an amazing year, set multiple individual and team records, and eliminated the Rags. It was a great season. Kudos to the Canes, they’re a good, experienced, team… At least that’s what I’m telling myself, still pissed about the loss.
Preseason expectations: fringe playoff team, wc2
What happened?
3rd in the NHL. Second in the Metro. Best season in franchise history. 13 game win streak. Jack the regular season king. Dougie most points in a season. EXTRA HOCKEY. KNOCKING THE FUCKING RAGS OUT OF THE PLAYOFFS
This was a monumental success this season. We blew everyone out of the water with the direction we took. Myself included. We are young. We have a cupboard of prospects still. The core looks really bright and the best is yet to come. Chin up boys. Was a hell of a ride and I look forward to seeing every single one of you back in the game day threads next season
PS: fuck the Rangers
Anyone know why Bill Spaulding isn’t on the post-game show tonight?
I mean, we weren’t supposed to be here. Next year is gonna be so much fun. The boys played their asses off tonight and i can’t be mad at that loss. Little mistakes that come with playoff experience… hell of a year.
Also, Mike McLeod legacy playoff is cemented
Curious to see who has been battling through injuries this series (besides Timo). The blowout losses were so odd.
Luke Hughes has arrived
We made too many mistakes Cup winning teams simply don’t make. From Ruff on down.
We have exciting moves to make for next season, we should Trade Bratt, Graves, and MB, go with Akira starter and keep VV as backup for now until Daws is ready!
Great, fun season. I wish it didn’t end on two bone head plays back to back with Tatar and Sieg. While Schmid is very raw, I feel like he could be it. His poise is intense. The not clearing out zone is like fundamental hockey and aside from Marino really, all of the D had some really soft moments. I know we’re a speed team but some of the games they’re just getting so outmatched physically and take huge hits from other teams … excited for the future!
Someone will pay Bratt close to what he wants, because he’s a great regular season producer, which a lot of teams will value highly. In my opinion we’re a team trying to win the Stanley Cup, and we need to focus on who will help us achieve that objective. If Fitz thinks Bratt can somehow turn it around next playoffs then I guess pay him, but I highly doubt that’s what he’s thinking. Those dollars could be better spent on guys like Meier who play a playoff brand of hockey, amongst other guys we could bring in.
Look at who was successful during our pretty decent playoff run – by the end of it, McLoed was our most impactful player because of faceoffs and a good forechecking ability. And our defensive unit was completely exposed – while the Canes defensive unit basically won them the series. Gotta focus on that
I’m proud of the boys and this season regardless
We never predicted we would get to this point. Bright future ahead. And most importantly fuck the rags!!
