Ridiculous comment, giving Matthews 15 million will assure more failure. When you have a cap you need to pay other players on your team as well!!! If he is such a SUPERSTAR then why did he have O goals in round 2? Superstars preform when the going gets tough.

They need to blow it up. This team is too top-heavy and the moment the other team figures out how to shut the Core Five down, it's over. Ship off Tavares, Marner, maybe even Matthews, and use the cap space to stock up on quality defensive depth and a couple reasonably-priced offensive depth pieces (they can probably keep Nylander and Reilly). This team needs to be ready to run at least three solid lines at all times. Also, replace Keefe with a coach that has actually had some playoff success in the past few years; it's clear he's in way over his head.

Matthews is not a superstar bc he scored 60 1 season. This guy can't create scoring chances for himself at all. He's nowhere close to #66 . Superstars are difference makers in the Playoffs. Look at all the other top guys in the NHL. Marner makes players better. When JT came over his goal production went up for that 1st season to almost 40 goals. Sign someone else . If you have to let him walk so beat it. I do not trust this guy anyway. I think if they can trade him and get a top dman and a 35-40 goal scorer , maybe a 1st draft pick. That will be a win. NO Way IN HELL YOU SIGN HIM!! BIG MISTAKE. HE"S a good player but not a franchise player. Maybe the guy does better in the US but some just can't play in a Vanadian market. We have to try to keep Matthews and Marner can’t completely gut the core 4 unless u get lots in return for Matthews and Marner because the team still needs to compete.
Toronto had the pure scorers if you play non contact.The difference was none of these guys would be dirty and want to fight.They needed a level playing school which they they had no support.

Toronto needs to get rid of Matthews. Look at the success Florida is having getting rid of Huberdeau, who was also not a playoff performer. I think getting a steal for Matthews would be great bait. Acquire a few solid 5 million dollar players that play better under pressure. Toronto needs to sacrifice the cute postseason they like to have every year for some actual success.

I respectfully disagree with Craig saying Matthews is one of the best players in the NHL. The best players in the league SHOW UP WHEN IT COUNTS. Do you think that Crosby, McDavid, MacKinnon, Draisaitl or heck even Makar would EVER no show not just this series, but seven YEARS worth of playoff series like Matthews has? I know he can score 60 in the regular season, but those are meaningless goals; they're empty calories and when it's all said and done, THOSE DON'T MATTER.

Save the $12-15 million that Matthews wants and keep all these guys they added at the trade deadline. Kyle Dubas has done an amazing job of giving the core four all the support they need to get the job done. If these core guys can’t show up in playoffs then it’s time to move on!

Mathews is a one dimensional player. Can score that is it. No forecheck, no backcheck, no leadership, no heart and very soft. Shooting the puck don't make an all round player.
