  1. The difference is the Oilers big guns showed up to play and they were let down by their supporting cast. Plus Vegas is just a really good team.

  2. How did the Oilers get fucked against the Jets? I’m positive I heard Dangle say that.

  3. Oilers had a better season last year compared to this year. Leafs had a better season this year compared to last. Thus the Oilers choke is bigger.

  4. The Oilers lost to the best team in the west in a close series where the goldenknights backup played like prime Price.

  5. Copied my comment over from the full length video:

Oilers fan here – re: success vs failure discussion ~10:00 ish…

To me, my expectations at the start of the year was for the team to reach the 2nd round. A success would have been to reach the Conference finals again, but it's not like losing to the VGK was a failure. At this point, with only 8 teams left competing it's just down to whichever team can string together 1 more better game than their opponent. The difference between the remaining last-place seeded team (Panthers) and 1st place seeded team (Hurricanes) is pretty marginal.

In this specific instance – VGK vs EDM – the GK's were the higher seeded team and technically had the advantage. There's enough here to have hope for in the next attempt to up expectations to a conference finals appearance, and a success being a SCF appearance.

To my mind, there's 2 (and maybe 3) things that my home team needs to address in the off-season.

1 – Replace/move lower-achieving depth forwards with gritty 2-way players that we can rely on to play solid 3rd / 4th line minutes. Yamomoto unfortunately included.

2 – Replace/move offensive-minded defensemen with a shutdown guy so we don't just have 1 to rely on. I think this means Ceci might have to move. (2b – Nurse MUST play to the level at which his contract demands he be. No more stupid positioning errors leaving his partner or the goalie high and dry)

3-ish – Goal tending needs to develop. Skinner being a rookie I hope he doesn't regress, and I hope Campbell can find his form for a whole 60 minutes reliably enough that we can have a true tandem. There's no way to move that boat anchor of a contract without giving up valuable assets, so this one is going to be the weather vane for whether the year will be a success or not.

  6. The Leafs did not choke. They lost to a better team we have to accept that. They were also never up in the series they lost in 5 games.

  7. Agree with Steve on this one. Edmonton has come a lot closer than us, and with worse talent overall.

  8. I say the Leafs were the bigger disappointment.
Oilers due to their goaltending issues very close second. But it's close to a tie.
The only difference is that Oilers made it to the final 4 , Toronto?

  9. not even close, the leafs choked harder. And I'm a leafs fan! Same thing every year

  10. The Leafs by FARRRRRR….
At least the Oilers top player score and won home games.
    MATTHEW SHOULD BE DEMOTED….
McDavid by Far is a better player than Matthew…

  11. Leafs didnt have a harder path this year, Knights and Kings were two of the top teams on the conference in people's eyes. Toronto getting slapped by Florida vs losing in 6 to Vegas are very different

  12. dangle has no originality. thinks when he yells, he is making a stronger argument. just a flabby loser

  13. I’d say Oilers and I’m an Oiler fan just because more was expected from them and their defence was bad in the playoffs. Ekholm said it good you have to win more 2-1 3-2 games and not try to out score your problems. No one expected the Leafs to win a round let’s be honest but everyone expected Edmonton to get back to round 3 or the finals so it’s more of I wouldn’t say a choke job but a disappointment.
