Dubas strikes me as a guy who’s too smart to be working in sports, especially hockey where a lot of dumb people run the show.

If he continues to work in hockey, it’s because he wants to, not because he needs to. The guy can easily pivot into the finance and/or business world like Sam Hinkie. Hinking is the former GM of the Sixers, forced out by the NBA for Trust the Process, now works in high level finance with zero intention of ever coming back to sports.

An avenue I think he’d do well in is actually soccer due to how inefficient soccer markets are.

Losing Dubas would be the second worst thing behind losing Matthews.

I believe his emotions here, they seam raw and real. To me at the core of it all was how devastated he is to finally realize that his plan didn’t work. Not because it wasn’t a good strategy, but because as a new executive he bought into the idea that the more you give, the more you’ll get. So he gave and gave and gave thinking that eventually the core would deliver. But they just wanted more. It was never enough. He gave them way more than they gave him and I think it crushed him.

    This will harden him.

I’d imagine what he’s talking about here with his family is that the stress and pressure of the job followed him home and likely affected the household. I don’t think it has anything to do with the media, nobody is writing hit pieces on the guy or standing out front of his house for a sound byte. In reality he spends less than 2 hours a year in front of the media.

I’d be kind of pissed if I were him.

Under no circumstance should he have been hung out to dry with no contract extension all season.

I don’t care about success or not in this scenario, MLSE prints money and could easily let him go if this went completely south during the regular season or if we got completely embarrassed in the first round.

Now we have a month and a half to decide what the fate of Matthews will be with this franchise and gear up for the draft, which he generally excels at. No pressure to any new GM coming in, who likely has no relationship with Matthews and is likely a downgrade when it comes to drafting.

Sounds like these past few covid years have been tough on him. I wouldn’t blame him if he walked away. This is not a easy job and I don’t envy anyone in that position.

We have to wait on this guy who has accomplished jack shit to decide what he wants to do? Figure it out or fire his ass and get a winner in the GM chair.
