Brooksie needs to chill the fuck out

Seems like it could be a good hire. The dude has an impressive resume.

A better choice than most of the shit that has been on the interwebs.

*There would be throw-up in the mouth if this individual is hired to coach the Rangers and not only in mine.*

Give me Leach please, hope Laviolette goes to CBJ

If we go with a good ol’ boy retread, then Lav is my pick out of the currently available ones. That list could expand soon, though.

I like the idea of Knobs, but Drury said that experience will be an important factor.

Hell no, guy didn’t even play college

  8. TechnicalLocksmith92

Still holding out hope that we get Sully but I do think that Laviolette is the best coach on the market as of now

I am not opposed to the hiring of an established coach, but not this guy. It doesn’t look to me like his approach to the game or his stratagem are evolving to progress in tandem with the changing & evolving NHL. His flyers got worse and worse. His predators got worse and worse and his capitals who were divisional front runners when he took over got worse and worse and worse.
There are established coaches that make structure tweaks / adjustments which would imply that they’re aware of the way the wind is blowing with newer generations of players and looking to adapt their current models.
Lavvy is squarely NOT one of those guys or likely to be interested in adapting his O zone methodology.
I do not want this team to move systematically backwards.

Rofl for the love of god please no

I don’t hate the idea, but I still think he’s a scumbag with all shit the caps pulled on his watch

If I were to ask Chris Drury, Is this coach the best option to help this team or the safest bet for you to stay on as GM for a few more years, could he honestly say yes to the first question?

Honestly think I’d rather Babcock than Laviolette. At the very least Babcock was always known for being an extremely strong X’s and O’s coach. I’d rather gamble on him having learned his lesson in regards to how he treats his players (although some tough love is needed) instead of going with Laviolette who is basically Gallant 2.0 in terms of lack of systems.

Not saying I want Babcock either, I want Sully but I know that’s not happening, just that if the Rangers are looking down that type of road I would prefer Babcock to Laviolette.

All the retread options suck, he sucks the least IMO. Doesn’t make him a good pick mind you

  16. MrSpaceKook

I would rather randomly select someone from this sub to be coach instead of Laviolette

  17. KMAJackson

Laviolette is a lateral move from Turk. No thanks.

I don’t think Laviolette is a *bad* coach per se, but I don’t see a single universe where the Rangers win a cup under Peter Laviolette.

This is the equivalent of running it back under Gallant, PL probably has better in-game adjustments, but if you hated the way that Gallant would give Laf/Kakko/Chytil poor ice time, you really aren’t going to like Lav.

Side step. Nothing much to see here

    >Drury needs to go with his gut here. He needs a coach who has the technical ability to help this veteran team take the next step in the playoffs when matching and strategic adjustments become paramount while treating the players in the same empowering and professional manner that marked Gallant’s tenure. **Our understanding is that players were asking for help during exit interviews.**

If true, yikes. That’s how you get fired even after two relatively successful regular seasons. Need to go learn some new tricks there, Gallant.

This also makes me think that some of the « recycled » coaches like Laviolette would in fact be an improvement. Gallant had a winning record with three different teams before joining the Rangers, but Laviolette has been to the SCF with three different teams.

Of the long list of retreads in the league, Laviolette is absolutely at the top of the list. He’s been to the cup 3 times and won it once.

But I don’t think it’s what the Rangers need now.

Laviolette is the safe choice, someone who’s going to get the Rangers to the playoffs. But I feel like the same effect could have been achieved by simply telling Gallant to hire new assistants. When the Rangers fired Gallant, it sent a message; we can do better.

I agree with Brooks (ew) that a disciplinarian isn’t what’s needed. It’s a long odds gamble that ends with trade requests and a soured reputation.

They need someone with an analytic approach. Someone who can take the kids to the next level while utilizing the stars we have to get them there. We do need some accountability, too, but that can be gained without being an asshole.

We need to take a chance on an assistant. Brunette is my choice currently if the Devils do keep Ruff. Jay Leach is a gamble but worth it imo. Both of these are my go-to picks before looking at retreads like Laviolette.

What is the fucking point? My god, with these names. Gallant is a way more relevant coach. Lav hasn’t won a round in 5 years. Please for the love of god pick someone interesting, new, fresh.

  24. MeetTheMets31

this article basically says « if its not a coach with no experience, then it will be a coach with experience » YOU DONT SAY?!?!?!?

  25. Direct_Crab6651

For the love of god break the bank and convince Trotz to come coach the team. I don’t even like the guy but his ability to get guys to give maximum effort and play solid defense is what this team desperately needs.

That caps team he won with was one of the worst teams they have had in a while but he even got Ovi to backcheck …… that’s a miracle unto itself

  26. Mr_Abobo

We have the best goalie in the league, one of the best offensive defenders in the league, a perennial 100 point scorer—for fucks sake, can someone just make the smallest adjustments in the playoffs and let this team win a fucking Stanley Cup?
