Tempe vote non, jetant le doute sur l’avenir des coyotes

  1. Ownership carousel, draft stupidity, tanking and futility, financial embarrassment and mismanagement but theyll run gleefully to Houston saying its all the fault of voters and Phoenix

  2. Should have never moved from Winnipeg. This is karma. Although I feel for the fans and personnel.

On that note, i will say the Coyotes, if it comes down to it, could move to the east IF it's alongside an expansion with an even number of teams. So if for example the NHL added 4 teams, the initial plan would likely be to add one team to each of the 4 divisions (say Portland, Houston, Atlanta, and Quebec), but then the Coyotes "want" to move to an Atlantic Division market (like Hamilton, Quebec city, or Hartford), so instead of adding 1 team per division, they add one in each the Pacific and Metro, and then 2 in the Central (one for the initially planned expansion, and one to replace the Coyotes, who's relocation now fills the open spot in the Atlantic). Something like that is the main way i could see the Coyotes moving to a non Central Division market if relocation becomes their only option, because as well as Detroit and Columbus not being willing to move to the Western Conference, i don't know if Vegas would be willing to move to the Central to make room for the Coyotes to move to a Pacific Division market like Portland, Boise, Sacramento, or San Diego.

  4. The continuing saga of hot garbage… Feels like the old WHA days. Oh yeah, the Roadrunners failed too.
    "Houston, we have a problem."

  5. Shocker! Less than 10% of the population watches hockey. Why would anyone think that a popular vote would pass for funding for it? I think at this point in the USA you would be hard pressed to get a city to pay for a NFL project even. People are starting to really feel the economy.

Vegas is west of AZ. Why TF would anyone even consider putting Vegas in the Central while leaving Arizona in the Pacific.

  7. I guess tempe really likes their landfill huh? I know there's more to it than that but I'm very surprised the people voted no to this

  8. Sorry, Yotes fans, this can’t be a fun feeling. Absolute embarrassment for the league, but this is all self inflicted by the morons running the team. Maybe try paying your rent next time you clowns.

  9. Market size: Houston (7th), Phoenix (11th). I don't think the NHL will be crying any tears

I think the other problem with the Coyotes playing at Footprint Center with the Suns is that i'm pretty sure that place is a Basketball specific arena (meaning it's not a multi purpose arena the way MSG, TD Garden, and even Moda Center in Portland are), and if that's the case, having the Coyotes play in Footprint Center would create another situation like when the Islanders played at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, like that'd probably cause a bigger issue than if they just stayed at Mullet Arena forever.

  11. As a canes fan who always had a soft spot for the yotes, I’m devastated. It wasn’t long ago that everyone was calling for the canes to move, that they didn’t have enough fans, etc. There was always enough fans, the team just hadn’t done enough to bring them in and keep them around. It stings seeing another team in a similar situation fall on the other side of the fence, man this just sucks

  12. Same thing just happened in Oakland, when ownership refuses to pay for stars and is content with staying in perennial rebuilds, the fans lose interest and the team is forced to move. Not the fault of Coyotes or A's fans whatsoever, just a reflection of the effects of poor ownership

  13. Yeah sure this a city that should be able to support a team given normal circumstances….good owner, good building so sad for the people of this city. We in Tampa dealing with similar issues with our Baseball team not getting a proper building and threats to move.

  14. "Hey guys, we can either have a new Arena for our NHL team, or we can have this landfill in the middle of our community, let's put it to a vote!"
    What the literal $%^&?!!
This just shows you don't deserve or want a team…that's ok there are tons of places that would love and appreciate their own team. I also love how Bettman and his group of chimps have ZERO interest in another Canadian team while trying to force people in places who don't care about hockey period to have a team.
Yeah…Houston sounds about right as far as the type of place these idiots want to put a team…another city who could give a shite and the team will fail just like here

  15. Been waiting for this since they announced that place, nobody cares about hockey in USA, thank espn for not trying to change that either.

  16. Arizona going to the Central rather than Vegas makes sense first and foremost due to time zones, Shannon. Vegas is in the same timezone as the rest of the Pacific all year. None of the Central Division teams are in that timezone. Arizona is only in that timezone during US Daylight Savings (since they don't observe it), which is less than half of the regular season.

Same reason as Nashville not moving to the East, and (in part) Detroit/Columbus not wanting to move to the West.

  17. Well, this killed my week. At least I got a few jerseys before they moved.

  18. You said, If a team has as much trouble of the past 25 years as the Coyotes have had "ON THE ICE", you'd have trouble filling the building… I don't know, Scotiabank Arena/Air Canada Centre looked pretty full over the last 25 years….

  19. Bettman really does have a point about increasing the footprint of the sport as a whole. A young Auston Matthews would never have picked up the sport if he didn't go to a Coyotes game. If it isn't going to be Arizona, look for some other non-traditional hockey market.

  20. good, they cant fill a 5000 seat arena. go to quebec where you belong but im sure theyll move to some american hick city and fail again. im sure whatever the bet man deacides youll agree with cuz you really seem like a bet man fan even though hes done nothing to help the nhl out of the sports basement.
