I think it’ll be June before we get a decision. I’m ok with it as long as they pick the best person m.
I jokingly mentioned the only possible downgrade from Hextall was Mike Milbury. But Chiarelli isn't much better. If Chiarelli gets that job, all those people who've been throwing out absurd Malkin to wherever trade proposals online might finally get their wish. Something like Malkin, Guentzel, and a 1st for the signing rights to Nail Yakupov.
You could find an insane homeless dude on the street and 60 percent chance they would be better GMs than Chia.
Owned by the Fenway group it's not going to be good for the penguins. I was never happy about the Fenway group-buying the penguins
Why don’t you name some good replacements than DK?? I’m Legitimately asking because nobody names a replacement, they just cry about the interviews.
So whos your first option bud?
Didn't he sign Leon for 8 mil a year for 8 years too?
Hey, I hear Milbury is looking for another GM gig after seeing how his broadcasting brother Jones hooked up with the Flyers with no management experience at all (that should go well). With Bashtin on Mikey's resume, FSG should be calling him soon.
As bad as Chiarelli would be, Botterill's only GM gig (not an assistant) in Buffalo didn't go much better. That's the work experience I'll use as barometer, not what he's done under other GM's, like what Botterill has with Seattle. I'd rather see someone else who at any point in their hockey management timeline (doesn't have to have been a GM) doesn't have a huge black mark that resulted in them getting fired. Chiarelli and Botterill don't fit that template for me, same as Hextall and his time as GM with the Flyers should have been an easy "Nope" for Mario.
1st rd of interviews doesn’t mean they’re gonna hire him. Fenway has made it obviously that they’re casting a wide net for candidates. I would be stunned if he ends up being the GM. I feel like they’ll hire either Tulsky or Boterill for GM and maybe Darche from TB as President of hockey Ops (at least I hope)
I feel bad for anyone who has chosen to become optimistic about this franchise because of this ownership group.
This kind of thing isnt just what is wrong with the penguins, or sports in general.
No. This is a current problem with the state of things in America.
There is a top down form of running things by people that are out of touch to (and disregard the interestd of) everyday people.
Just go look at the situation with the Coyotes and how the NHL has been trying to CRAM hockey down the throats of Arizonians for decades.
They just rejected a bid for a new stadium.
They dont want them, or their dsmn plans.
Ir how about those unpopular live/ animated, digital ads on televised hockey games.
We will get used to it, the upper brass say
Or what about pride night stuff.
Get used to it Brian Burke says.
And what is the common result to this top down governance?
It produces negative results across the board.
This is what happens when we have no accountability.
I could go on and on.
Couldnt you?
I think anyone hired as a gm will have this problem: Do the Pens try to "win Now" with the veteran group they have? Or build for the future? I think it's obvious the Pens want to "Win Now' and that is going to be problematic for whoever they hire.
I don't know what's worse. Fenway group owning the penguins or Bob nutting owning the pirates.
DK, are we a little chapped that FSG doesn't leak non-stop like JR did?
Taylor hall was a trouble maker on the oilers; not a team player, that's why he was dealt
