They’re a terrible match. I don’t think they have anything of interest to us, or that we could make work with the cap. Not unless they want to eat a bad deal for a player willing to waive their NMC.

The Canucks would be the team to scam but please not Laf
Gbeez22
Miller passes to Kravtsov, Kravtsov over to Lafreniere, he shoots, he scores! /s
Would rather they actually give Laf consistent top line mins next season to try and push him to his potential than trade him away when his value is at its lowest
Tommybrady20
It makes no sense to trade him.
He’s gonna sign the kakko bridge of 2×2, so there’s no chance you’re getting anybody in the same realm of potential for $2M or less to fit into your cap constraints and you also can’t “trade up” for a more expensive, but solidified presence since we have zero room- it has to somehow be cheap but as high potential as Laf, which is extremely rare.
Also, his value is at an all time low. He’s been underwhelming on a national stage, that’s fair. But even the fans who outright hate Laf and want him gone; are you really gonna be happy with the pathetic return we get for a three years out first overall pick that you’re bailing on? Because we’re legitimately talking about a package of some other teams young guy who is struggling hard to reach their potential, a prospect, and a pick- does that move the needle at all?
They’ve really wedged themselves into this hole, your best bet is to hold on and pray he improves (and gets a skating coach).
Mitcheeeey
He’s 21 ffs give it some time he’s a 1OA, what do we get from trying our 1OA to Vancouver? A couple round 1 picks and a hotdog?
dbzman34
Please don’t trade him.

No.
Academic-Value1876
Ofc they have interest….. he’s a 23 year old player with huge upside who was a first overall
Rangers shouldn’t even entertain trading him
NYM32
it makes absolutely zero sense to trade him considering he’s literally 2nd on the team in 5v5 goals since 1/1/21 and 4th in 5v5 points in that timeframe. the Rangers need a top 6 forward so…they would trade a player who’s producing at a top 6 rate on the team? very illogical.
even more illogical when you consider that he had virtually 30 points at 5v5 this season at 13 5v5 min a night and you’d have an extremely hard time replacing that kind of production at what is projected to be a $2.1m cap hit for Laf. That is even more important considering NYR has no cap space. they’re going to need as many players as they can this season to play above their AAV
looking back historically, guys like Dach and Romanov managed to return the 13th pick in the draft. i wouldn’t ever *entertain* a Laf trade with Vancouver unless it started with 11OA, Conor Garland (retained salary), and another prospect (like Raty or Hoglander), *and* Vancouver took Goodrow back
To tell you the truth, if they’re together, toss the kid line against the other teams’first lines for the entire season to see if they sink or swim. For a little while, they’ll tread water, but bet you dollars to donuts, they’ll swim.
_Noah93
He’s third on our team in even strength goals and 5th in points in the last two years. Give him a break he gets no pp time.

Great. I have interest in buying a nice ass house in west Chester. Doesn’t mean it’s gonna happen lol
DryProgress4393
Give him a 2×2 see how he does under the new coaching staff , if he doesn’t perform after that, then maybe look at moving him.
DOCinLA90272
He was the least of the Rangers challenges at season’s end. Keep him please

This would be insane. Drury is smarter than this.

If you approach this potential trade from the perspective that you must get something in return immediately then no….. it makes no sense to trade him.
But if you believe it is a deep draft …and talented players can be had with the top 10 picks that can maybe make an impact this season, why not? Now the argument of how do you replace his production for cheaper is gone.
Here are 10 players that were rookies this season that produced more or a little less then Lafreniere did this season. M.Beiners 57 points, M. Macelli 49 points, M. McTavish 43, W. Johnston 41 points, k. Johnson 40 points, N. Cates 38 points, J. Quinn 37 points, O. Power 34 points, S. Pinot 35 points, JJ petrka 32 points.
Lafreniere had 39 points this season. That is so easy to replace. You want me to post the previous year’s rookies who out produced Lafreniere in 2021?
I get it. I understand we want to see him succeed…. he is our first overall pick in forever. But this is not a winning situation for either party. He can’t play right wing, he is stuck below Kreider and Panarin on LW …he is never going to get his fair share of PP time or ice time. Is he a bad player? We don’t know and likely never will because he will always be in the shadow of those 2 previously mentioned.
Trade him at the draft with our pick and move up 10 to 15 spots and select a solid RW player. If that isn’t a possibility, then sign him for his bridge deal and move forward. But to say it makes no sense just shows how limited your thinking is on the matter. Is there a guarantee the player we draft will be good? No, just as there is no definite answer he will suck. But presently LaFreniere is statistically the worst 1st overall draft pick in the last 20 to 25 years. Look at my comments if you doubt me.
OTR_22
Good, send him there, he’s one of the worst busts in history. Waste of a 1OA pick. Absolute loser.

Man if only there was some sort of trade history we could look back on and think damn, if only that club would have let that young dude cook, look at what they could have had!
The thought of the Rangers giving up on Laf or Kakko at this point in their careers is Mika me crazy

just put him back on a line with Panarin and Trocheck for 17 min a night, which was actually [really effective at creating offense this season](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FoNsiv0XEAIsQcn?format=png&name=small), and they’ll be fine
