ALL year long we had 2 specific players failing. Yammamoto and Ceci. Game after game after game… failure. But the team was outscoring their ineffectiveness. It's up to the Coach to recognize these players floundering. And what did we see Woodcroft do to fix their ineffectiveness in their positions? NOthing! Absolutely nothing. No attempts to try a different player combination. He ran Yammo in the top 6 and Ceci with Nurse right until the final game. That was a failure on his part. Only he can say why? But I will put at least 25% of the blame on Holland who did nothing ALL year long to remedy the situation. Both Coach and GM failed in this regard and it cost them the playoffs.
It's easy why this year's loss hurt more. Last year they got swept 4-0 in the WCF… easy to swallow when you had 5% chance to win the series. However when you lose 2-4 and you were minutes away away from winning at least 1 game and go to a potential game 7, it hurts.
Coach you need to trash the man on man in the Dzone and go to a more conventional box coverage, like the successful teams do ie Vegas/ LA. And give the top 6 the freedom to be creative in the Ozone and pp! Also, quit making the top 6 players kill penalties, you exhausted Connor Leon by doing so. The bottom 6 are quite capable of doing a good job on the PK..Learn to trust them! .Dont complicate things too much!
I think Jay is very well spoken and understands the game, it’s just unfortunate maybe he couldn’t sense putting in Campbell to get a different look at the back end during the ebs and flows of a series . Great coach otherwise hope the boys come back strong next season. Enjoy the summer Woody. Can’t believe the non call on the Ekholm high stick. That was an atrocious non call.
Just skate like the 2 win games. Pops everything that moves. They didn’t do a thing in those games. Y can’t he/ they see that? Solutions right to there. If they played like those 2 games. They’d have still playing. LA is the team to beat in the west no one else.
Best coach the oilers have had in a long time. The team plays hard for him. Love the fact some players have ditched vacation and are in the gym working for next season
I question why Woodcroft decided to start Skinner 12 straight games even when he was obviously tired, struggling, and when he had never started more than 6 straight games in his pro career? With the expensive and experienced Campbell looking good toward the end of the season, playing well in relief in the playoffs, AND having saved the team's bacon in game 4 against LA, you would think that a good coach with give him a start, after Skinner had already been pulled again and again against Vegas.
Maurice gave Bobrovsky a chance, and now they're in the final 4, on the back of spectacular performances of a goalie who struggled in the regular season, and for the past few years.
Woodcroft's attempts at line matching were also a mystery, and kept a fired-up Connor down to 6 minutes in the first period in a must win game-6.
Ye I woulda started Campbell too given Skinner was struggling but idk if that’s as big of a mistake as ppl make it out to be. Campbell had every opportunity at the starting position and flops everytime. It shouldn’t be a shock he didnt get that chance in the playoffs.

Good luck catching the Seattle Kraken next year.
Losing is a disease.

Completely out coached by Cassidy in the series.

21 minutes of cliches with no real answers.
Jay what hell. Why u played skinner game 6. Wow Campbell should have played. U guys be in next round wow. Now happy with u.
They had so many Ghost passes these play-offs i lost track.. don't just throw the puck away fellas..
I hope both Skinner & Soup play there best next year and our D helps them more as well…
Not sure if Jay is the guy. He seems a bit stubborn and set in his ways to win. Have to be more open to taking calculated risk and changing things up
His positivity is infectious. He's good for this team.
Last year was Smith. This year was Skinner. What is with him and goaltenders?

Jay made a mistake by playing Skinner, period.
Klim Kostin played 3.30min game 5 and 3.50min in game 6. WTF??
Everyone saying Campbell should have been put in, you all have a short memory. There’s no guarantee Campbell would have saved our season.
Not only that the team in front of skinner should take some of the blame defensively.
I'm already excited for next year.
If Oilers just would target a AAA goaltender and size up on their defense they would be near unstoppable.

Jay is good but not great. We got out coach against Vegas

Do a better job with line match ups and scrap the man to man defensive zone and go to more of a zone defense and profit!

Let’s not forget that Vegas took the Tampa Bay route to playoff success. How much over the cap were they due to the LTIR loophole?
Coaching is the #1 problem with this team and it showed in these playoffs.
Stay outta the box mostly stupid penalties a bit better tending and defense and should be a breeze
Jay isn’t the coach he’s just Mcdavids spokesman.
Gotta get rid of the D Coach, D coverage continues to break down
they need to figure out why the games they lost when were ahead after the 1st period.
dam jay is a smart coach , you know for a fact he is going to take this as a learning experience and come back strong

man he's a good guy but at first a kindergarten teacher yes , pro hockey coach wtf .
he has patience
Next year 2024 Oilers
will hoist the Stanley Cup .
Hey Jay I thought you didn’t have numbered lines? But now you reference the “top 9” huh?
