If this is accurate, why are we chasing yet another fucking winger/reclamation project instead of addressing the teams needs?
ANarrowUrethra
Depending on the cost it could be an absolute steal. Similar to the Bear and Kratsov trades where we sniffed around for a while and waited for the cost to come down before ultimately getting them on the cheap.
There were people saying do Miller 1 for 1 last year or Horvat 1 for 1 this year. If the cost comes down to Hoglander plus or 11th overall I think it would be a very good move. He likely won’t be the generation player he was drafted to be but he could still become a very good top 6 winger.
Aneocon
Seems like a waste of trade capital to get a player that we dont need. He doesnt seem like the type of player that tips the scales for us
Malforian
I’d take him if he’s super cheap
gambierisland
Trading assets for another winger without speed is right on brand for this franchise let’s do it
Vagus10
If we get move Garland or Boeser and get trade capital back somehow. I’m down for this deal.
This has too much smoke IMO, odds are it’s legitimate. I’d take the gamble, he has some issues but if he puts it together the reward could be incredible. He’s still only 21, this isn’t a 25 year old on his 3rd team. Looks more like when Boston traded Seguin
randomj77
I think that the only reason this « rumour » exists is because of Castonguay’s prior relationship makes an easy connection for armchair GMs. Like I would be down if it was a minimal return, like Rathbone for Laffy would be ideal, but other than that I don’t think we should focus on him since his numbers aren’t great.
jehcoh
I doubt Hogs is going anywhere, as well as Klim. These guys have way too much potential to sell before they get their chance with the Van Nucks. Rathbone, on the other hand, could be used as trade bait, but even then he could be a late bloomer.
CraftierAverage
Like Dumba I will care when it happens. Atm its just another rumur.
nihilism_ftw
If it’s any of our wingers for Laf trade then I’m all for it.
If it’s our 11th OA, fuck no
PaperMoonShine
Im okay with this deal as long as Hoglander is left out of it. Right now they’re both trending as 3rd liners, and Hoggy has got the better assets to succeed in that role.
-DarkTiger-
I think this is one of those rumors that the media is pushing as clickbait rather than one that legitimately leaked from the team.
MDChuk
Lafreniere is a bit of a reclamation project, with an insanely high ceilling.
The 3 players rumored for him are also reclamation projects with a much lower ceilling, and a much lower floor.
Comes down to how much the pro scouting team believes in Lafreniere.
PathThatIsNoPath
They should rename them to the Vancouver Wingers. If it isn’t a rh dman or a center, the answer should always be a hard No right now.
EvrcrCPA
Fuck no. He sucks and can’t skate. Don’t need another Boeser
shivd10
He would have to be pretty cheap for me to have any interest in him
WasabiChimChim
I’m sorry but… ON WHAT CAP SPACE???
Knight_On_Fire
Let’s call Benning and ask what he’d do then do the opposite.
Only-Nature7410
I feel like they are gonna do this. Good or bad.
Hairy-Piglet-470
I mean, this isn’t the area we need to improve at all, but if anybody is going to get the max out of Lafreniere, im willing to bet it’s JT Miller. We’re gambling with PDG in that spot, and Laf lets us find a suitor for the Pearson contract, so we could potentially shed around 1 mil with this move.
Depending on the price, I’m all for this. Our pro scouting has been very solid since our management turnaround.
TaiterThoughts17
People in here acting like 11OA for Laf is an overpay, he’s 21, still has a runway for growth. Not sure what people are expecting to draft at 11 but this is a classic “over-rating draft picks”.
LeftToaster
We don’t really need to load up on more wingers, but Lafrenier has a ridiculously high ceiling if or when he breaks out. How much of his shine as a former 1st overall remains? He currently has the 3rd most points and 2nd most goals from his draft class – so he is a slow starter from a draft of slow starters. He put up 39 points and 16 goals getting 3rd line minutes and very little PP time with the Rangers last year. That’s not that far off of Connor Garland’s numbers. So they are not going to give him away for nothing. He’s an RFA, so he will probably warrant a bridge deal around $2M
The Rangers are in a win now mode, so they will be looking for someone who can help them get out of the brutal Metro Division, not an entirely futures oriented deal around Hoglander or one of our prospects.
I would make that deal if it also involved moving out one of Boeser or Garland for cap relief.
Maybe:
* To Canucks – Alexis Lafrenier and Rangers 2023 1st round pick (23rd)
* To Rangers – Brock Boeser and Canucks 2023 first round pick (11th)
That’s a pretty high price to pay if he doesn’t break out soon.
2BFrank69
I’d probably do it. He’s got a high ceiling and we need to find these kinds of players somehow. Don’t want to lose Hoglander, but for a 21 year old first overall?
BrokenArmsFrigidMom
Smart strategy. If we have all the wingers, teams with depth at C and RHD will be beating down our door to trade them one.
assaultnpepa
Obviously depends on cost, maybe straight up Klimovich or Rathbone not both. Unlikely Laf is going to become a better player just because of « he just needs a fresh start » cliche.
exhalted_legend
Allvin would be smart to stay away.. we really don’t need another reclamation project. We dealt with that enough during the Benning era.
YouCanFucough
For Hoglander, Rathbone, and Klimovich I would absolutely make that trade. Even if he amounts to nothing more than he is, he’s more impactful than Hoglander, Rathbone will likely never earn a spot on this roster, and Klimovich is still pretty ripe even if there’s a lot of upside there. I don’t know why New York would let him go for so little though
swainsauce89
Laf is begging for a breakout season. Get this guy a skating coach and put him in the top 6 with competent players and hell the kid has a good stick and high hockey IQ get him more ice time on PP2 and PK2 and just watch him flourish. Will that be on the Canucks? I dunno. But im sure as hell not against it. If we can offload Myers and make good trades of Boeser and Garland that would open up spots on the wings plus our system is very east/west mixed with long breakout passes which you dont have to skate like the wind to succeed in.
chrisdks
i mean we could try for the ninja turtle 3rd line, Aatu Raty & Laffy, with Karlsson or McDonaugh
bcbudtoker69
I’ll trade him for boeser 1 to 1
Tracktoy
Maybe we could flip them another project. Kravstov maybe? 🤣
Shironye
I like the idea, it just depends on the price.
Considering his potential, and the fact that he’s already established himself as an NHLer, I would be willing to move the 11th for him. And the fact that he’s only 21 makes me not feel bad about losing out on an 18 or 19 year old prospect.
As for who would go back the Rangers way, the obvious answer is Garland. Only 27, currently out-performing Lafreniere, so it’s not like they’d be losing offence. And his contract is pretty fair, all things considered. I don’t think the Canucks would even consider moving him if we weren’t so tight up against it.
As for prospects. No on Klimovich or Hoglander. I have a feeling the Rangers would ask for Hoglander though, since they were apparently interested in him before, as well. However, if Hoglander was going to go, then maybe we could widen the deal a bit and bring in Chytil? Then we’d finally have our 3rd line centre. A really good one, at that.
As for Rathbone. I don’t want him to go, I thought he was really good at training camp and in the pre-season, but for whatever reason, the Canucks just do not want to give him an extended look despite us being a trash team.
So maybe the 11th OA, Garland and Rathbone for Lafreniere? Maybe that’s too much, I don’t know, lol, I’m certainly no GM. Maybe they could give us a pick back, like a 2nd or 3rd?
Tl:dr – Hell yeah on Laf, depending on the price.
great_save_luongo
More wingers yay!!!! He also had a horrible playoffs and is another potential reclamation project??? He’s this team’s version of a wet dream.
Iamacanuck18
Id do it in half a second
emptyhoods
Honestly don’t know what the fuss is with lafreniere in NYR. He’s been getting better every year. He has a long development arc. He’s going to be a great player down the line.
If the Canucks can land him, great. I think it’s ridiculous people are considering it a gamble. If he had been a mid 1st rounder no one would look twice at his production. 91pts in 216 games is perfectly respectable for a young player, especially when playing under a loaded top 6 in NY.
nodarknesswillendure
After watching the NYR-NJD series, my thoughts are that this kid has been terribly coached and poorly utilized. If we could make him work he’d be an absolute steal. He’s still so young and has such a high ceiling. I’m into it
Passaglia05
Lafreniere had 12 goals and 29 points 5 on 5 in 1091 minutes.
Let’s compare that to some Canucks…
Anthony Beauvelier had identical numbers 5 on 5 in 1117 mins.
JT Miller had 12 goals and 32 points 5 on 5 in 1140 mins.
Brock Boeser had 10 goals and 35 points 5 on 5 in 1018 mins.
Connor Garland had 10 goals and 31 points 5 on 5 in 1056 mins.
Those guys are A lot older and a lot more expensive. I think the Canucks should jump at getting him.
NYR 5v5 goals over the last 2 seasons:
1. Kreider (39 in 2071 minutes)
2. Panarin (32 in 2360 minutes)
3. Lafreniere (30 in 2060 minutes)
1. Panarin (98 in 2360 mins)
2. Zibanejad (79 in 2195 mins)
3. Fox (66 in 2803 mins)
4. Kreider (60 in 2071 mins)
5. Lafreniere (56 in 2060 mins)
Mostly on a third line.
The Rangers have 20 million in cap tied up in Trouba and Panarin for the next 3 seasons, and 3.5 million for Barclay Goodrow for the next 5…they might have to move him.
