So… This windfall of cap-space would allow us to ice *exactly the same roster*, but with a cheap new backup goalie? Wow! Plan the parade! This fixes everything!!!
maybe someone will take boeser. So we can resign Beagle to a 4X4 NMC.
It’s a short term solution that only fixes the immediate problem of « we can’t bring back this same team that missed the playoffs again ». In the long term, this gives every team more money, which should have upward pressure on how much players get paid to re-sign and give everyone some wallet to create more demand for free agents.
The only *real* fix for us to improve is to get out from under these bad contracts, which will put us on an even playing field with the other teams.
I didn’t know the NHL and NHLPA could trade things like that. Can we trade OEL’s contract to the NHL for one additional gambling ad this season?
Nope
A lift of 3-4M would be great for the league as a whole, which is why I hope it happens.
It’s going to be a lot easier for teams to make “hockey trades”, or sequence a move where you send a player out and bring another player in.
Ethan Bear required retention. The Bo Horvat trade had to be cap-neutral.. that’s how effed the salary cap has been.
Never saw anyone else directly name the Myers bonus as being mid September. That’s pretty dire for any sort of cap dump attempt but does allow it to be paid before the start of the season for cap compliance. I guess they could put in place an agreement but it’s another hurdle on top of the no trade list Myers has.
They’d finally be out of the pressure caused from LTIR but would surely go and spend this on an expensive middle roster player.
I kinda almost would prefer they have their hands tied by the cap if it means they finally take a moment instead of cutting another corner.
I think we can all agree that an extra $3-4 million in rumoured cap space can fix everything for the Canucks this off-season. Awesome question.
Do we even bring kratsov back? And the article says they can have the same team but I also assume they won’t qualify dermott as an rfa. This article seems a bit lazy that ‘o great solved’. I do think that if demko plays well and wasn’t hurt this year goes different but more changes are needed.
