L’initié de la LNH Elliotte Friedman se joint à NHL Now pour discuter de l’avenir des Coyotes de l’Arizona après le rejet de leur nouveau projet d’aréna.
That damn NHL commissioner Gary Buttman just doesn’t want another team in Canada let alone Quebec that little prick is so arrogant that he would have egg all over his mug if the Coyotes were to move from Arizona to Quebec City and be successful.
Arizona has been a disaster and drama for 10+ years now. Quebec City or any eastern city is not an option, unless a team like Detroit would move to the Central division. Houston or KC would make the most sense.
Didn't Atlanta switch from east to west why can't the Coyotes which from west to east referring of course to Quebec city. The realignment argument is a crock. The second reason of is of course going into Montreal Canadiens territory, that is the real reason. The Canadiens are blocking the Nordiques period. The people in Quebec city should start realizing that and boycott Canadiens games, and I am a Canadiens fan but liked the rivalry.
If not Quebec City, it should be Milwaukee. They have a beautiful arena that is hockey ready, and no doubt they would sell a lot of tickets also. A rivalry with Chicago and Minnesota would be instant.
On May 22nd, 6 days after Tempe residents unanimously voted against the city's proposed $2.1 billion entertainment district that would've included a 16,000-seat hockey-specific venue, Quebecor president and CEO and Montreal Alouettes owner Pierre Karl Peladeau will purchase the Arizona Coyotes and their AHL affiliate Tucson Roadrunners from Alex Meruelo as well as their ECHL affiliate Atlanta Gladiators from Alex Campbell and Anson Carter for $968 million, including a relocation fee of $195 million to relocate the Coyotes to Quebec City. On May 26th, Pierre will finalize and close out the deal to purchase the Coyotes. On June 6th, Pierre and NHL commissioner Gary Bettman will hold a press conference at Videotron Centre in Quebec City to announce the completion of a deal to purchase the Coyotes. On June 27th, the NHL Board Of Governors will approve both the sale and relocation of the Coyotes to Quebec City in a 30-2 vote, only Stan Kroenke of the Colorado Avalanche and Geoff Molson of the Montreal Canadiens will vote against the sale and relocation, so next season, after calling the Phoenix area home for 27 years, the Coyotes will relocate to Quebec City to become the 2nd incarnation of the Quebec Nordiques and play their home games at Videotron Centre, becoming the 1st NHL team to relocate since the Atlanta Thrashers relocated to Winnipeg and became the 2nd incarnation of the Winnipeg Jets in 2011, while the Tucson Roadrunners of the AHL will relocate to Fredericton to become the Fredericton Lynx and play their home games at the Aitken University Centre on the University of New Brunswick campus and the Atlanta Gladiators of the ECHL will relocate to Halifax to become the Halifax Ospreys and play their home games at Scotiabank Centre. In addition, the 2nd incarnation of the Nordiques will join the Boston Bruins, the Buffalo Sabres, the Florida Panthers, the Canadiens, the Ottawa Senators, the Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Eastern Conference Atlantic Division and force the Detroit Red Wings to return to the Western Conference Central Division.
why don’t the Coyotes build their own arena? The Ottawa Senators did. American socialism where billionaire owners fleeze local tax payers. coyotes wiill go wherever they can confince a city to build an arena. Anywhere except Canada that is!
Kansas City is a ready-made situation for a relocated NHL franchise like the Coyotes. They have all of the necessary components in place for this to happen. Ownership-Hunt family; arena-T-Mobile Arena (17,300 seats located in a destination type setting ((bars, restaurants, shops, etc)) in downtown Kansas City); economy-Kansas City's economy is resilient, usually on the strong side; corporate backing-same group as with the Kansas City Chiefs due to Hunt family influence; population base-MSA population of 2.5 million with projected area growth to 3-million by the end of the 2020's; excellent location for the Central Division and for the league in terms of travel to and from Kansas City, (built-in rivalries with St. Louis, Chicago, Nashville, Minnesota), and many other positive reasons for this move. Kansas City had NHL hockey in the 1970's (Kansas City Scouts) and they never got a fair shot at making it as the WHA was taking players into their league that could've helped the Scouts improve and survive as a franchise and the National economy during the 1970's wasn't great, which affected the Scouts existence. Houston is a huge city with tons of sports fans and could bolster the NHL for sure, but with the NBA owner of the Rockets there, blocking the relocation into that town it's apparent that isn't going to happen any time soon. Minnesota, Denver, the Bay Area, Atlanta & Winnipeg all got a 2nd chance at being in the NHL. C'mon Gary, what are you waiting for?! Get it done! Get the Coyotes relocated into Kansas City! You won't regret it. It's Kansas City's turn now!
Take a look at the teams in this year's conference finals, Carolina and Florida in the east, Vegas and Dallas in the west. They don't come from the Northeast, Midwest or Canada. All four of them play in growing sun belt markets that have attracted many transplants from the aforementioned areas. Bettman realizes the growth potential in the Phoenix area. That's why he really doesn't want the Coyotes to leave AZ but the options are dwindling.
Quebec City is the best destination for this franchise. None of the arguments you made about Quebec City add up. This would be great for the sport and the NHL. Canada is hockey after all.
It drives me nuts that this team was already being propped up by the league when the Atlanta Thrashers moved to Winnipeg so the Coyotes, who are the historical Jets, could have returned to Winnipeg and kept all the history intact. I don't know how many hockey fans there were in Atlanta but I'm sure they would have liked it if the NHL tried half as hard to keep them from moving as they have with Arizona. At this point it is clear that this is some personal thing with Bettman. It's okay for another team to move and the NHL to add two new teams but this one team for some reason must remain where it is and be given 1000 chances to make things work to the point where they're playing in a tiny university arena. It's absurd. Find an owner in KC or Houston or wherever and let them move the team there. Should have let them move back to Winnipeg in 2009.
It is Suns or bust, there is no way the other team owners and NHLPA will put up with the process starting all over. I don't think it's Houston or Salt Lake because those owners can pay expansion fees for close to a billion dollars.
Another question is what arenas are NHL ready? or close to being NHL ready? Plus can some of these cities that were mentioned, can their metro areas support another team with todays ticket prices? plus the issue with the company that owns Bally Sports.
They're not going anywhere. Murillo has invested too much to be here. There are no other cities in North America without a team that has as much money. They would lose money if they moved. Those dumb Canadians need to win the cup before they can say they deserve another team. There won't be a team in Canada for a long time due to the terrible politics there

Crazy how they are still trying to revive a dead horse
Get a job…no cares about Aizzona

Back up uhauls…that’s easy. NHLPA should demand they be moved or owners pay into escrow the same amount that the top grossing team does.
Honestly, I feel like all of the AZ pro teams should just be sold/moved. They're all terrible and pretty much always have been.
suns do not want anything with the coyotes sharing of the arena
They will move before going back into Mullet Arena ffs. Elliotte is mostly useless with his insight, a Bettman operative.
Utah has Vivint Arena.
Kings play preseason there.
Salt Lake city doesn't have an arena? What happened to the 2002 olympic venue?

Offer Matt Ishibia a stake of ownership in the coyotes and pay for the retrofit for hockey in the footprint center
Elliot and Kevin and Kelly. My alltime favorite hockey anslysts.
Elliot is the pinnacle of professionalism.. I wonder if he'd have a job if his last name was Smith
i cant believe we are still talking about this shitshow of a team still in 2023

MOOVE IT
Isn't the 'size of the market' really only the amount of people who care about the franchise?
What FA would play for the Coyotes (at this time)?
If Bettman is concerned about the viability of the MTL Canadiens, he truly knows nothing about hockey.

Good Grief why does this guy always looks like he is homeless. Apparently he doesn't care what he looks like on the NHL Network.

Hockey struggling in Arizona, who would have thunk it??

We just need to keep them in Arizona

Curse those A-hole voters in Tempe!

He just doesnt even care that he looks like a guest host at the end of an episode of The Muppets
Some professionalism would be nice for a change
Come to Saskatoon!
The players we're heard discussing salt lake city
Move to Houston, Kansas City, Indianapolis or Salt Lake City.
What about an Expos situation… let the Coyotes play 20 home games in Quebec?
