Funny how most Leafs fans are crying "Fire Shanahan" now.

I am 100% convinced that Leafs fans will never be satisfied and always blame their negative vibes on someone in this org. I wish we could fire our fans and get new ones.

Even Boston fans were level headed with their first round exit and weren't blaming it on anyone.

  2. A call is more personal and they could have a heart to heart it might of made a difference

  3. Dubas was the best candidate for the job till he went on TV and said he wasn't sure he wanted it. The last part of that sentence is really important. GM of the Leafs is an all in job. When Dubas stood in front of TV cameras and announced to the world he wasn't all in, he sent a message that he wasn't the best choice. Regardless of who they pick, it will be someone who 100% wants to be GM, that is better than a guy who is saying maybe I don't want it. Who is saying, I'll do it if you pay me like I have won big when he has won so little it might as well be nothing. Who is saying, oh and I don't want to listen to my boss anymore.

Maybe Matthews or Marner or Nylander or whomever doesn't want to stay. Good, they should be all in or GTFO too. Not all in, trade them. It isn't as if they are lighting up the playoffs. Matthews has been beyond horrible in elimination games. Nylander doesn't defend, in his own end… I was going to say in the playoffs but it is really ever. He is a net loser for goals in the playoffs. Move him out. Marner, I would ask him to waive his NMC till July 1 2024. If he says no, ship him out too. Tavares can't be moved, but if he isn't all in take away that C. Give it to someone who is all in.

Can't win a Matthews trade? How hard is it to find a guy with 1 goal in a dozen elimination games. All those trades can be wins. The only trade that can't be won is Tavares because Dubas already lost that one.

Treliving would be a great choice. He got a great return for Tkachuck. It didn't work out because his team didn't want to play for Suter, who he tried to fire and the owner blocked him. Suter is a great coach for a short time. Treliving understood that, ownership didn't.

  4. What does Shanahan actually do anyway except ask permission of the mysterious board? I say make him GM as well.

  5. I think the time is right to move on from Dubas & Keefe. Start building a faster team with size that can have some push back in the playoffs.

  6. Red Wings fan here. Love Shanny, not the Leafs. This is Toronto's "Window of Opportunity". You do everything possible to maximize that window. Quenville is coming back, wouldn't surprise me if Joel Q is going to guide this team. Go Wings 😉

  7. Good call by shanny. Dubas was just a pawn and just an average one. If Doug Armstrong becomes gm, the Leafs are in a much better spot.

  8. Shanahan never said it was Financials? Lol all the media people speculated it was finances…. finances were probably a part of it but all shanahan said was that a counter offer was presented and he didn't like it. He never said the counter offer had anything to do with Financials.

  9. 1) Why would MLSE repeat the mistake they did with Babcock by overpaying Dubas ?

    2) why would they give Dubas autonomy when the contracts he signed with his stars on bridge deals were a disaster and he wasn’t able to have success with what he was allowed to do?

    Shanny didn’t spin anything

  10. We all need to stop viewing Dubas through rose tinted glasses.

He inherited a core four that can make thebplayoffs easily. He didnt need to build a team to make the playoffs. 9 years and theres only one playoff round win? Signing bottom of the barrel contracts to fill in the depth hasnt worked. Yes the pandemic happened and no pne expected this cap to stay this flat, but he could have moved on from one of them, and adjusted.

Hated the mrazek trade he was too up and down terms of performance but i actually didnt mind the murray deal. Murray has always been good when hes in just cant stay healthy. And ive already posted before on my thoughts on the shrewdness of the murray deal . You get a free 3rd round pick some money retained on his deal, and if hes healthy hes a good goalie and if not its ltir space for other additions.

Ritchie didnt work out but he got lybushkin for him so overall net neutral for me on that one. Ill gove him credit on some of the draft picks knies is a stud,Minten looks good , if robertson can stay healthy he will be good soon. Ty voit for the sting has been looking good and he had a look at the club early thisnyear and how the team trained, and it seems it elevated his game in the ohl.

The final thing about matthews not signing july 1st…. i know in he oress conference hebsaid he wants to be a leaf but he never said he was going to sign july 1st. He knows he had a down season and bad second round, if he signed something now he would get maybe 13 mill…. if he waits until midseason and hes a juggernaut he will get 14 or 14.5 million.

The leafs need fresh eyes and hopefully they dont let these players walk without getting value

  11. It's true that Treliving has xp in trading a star, but he also has xp in losing another star for nothing.

  12. Pressure absolutely should shift to President Shanahan because the only playoff series the Leafs so far have won in the NHL's modern salary-cap era was last month vs the Bolts.

  13. Shanny said it wasn't about the money.. When did he say it was? He only said it was a substantially different framework than was agreed on.

  14. MLSE went with Dubas in the Babcock situation, babs was being paid much more than any coach in the league. Babs was also shanny's coach he chose, and they parted ways and still have to pay Babcock, if they did the same with Dubas and next season is a bomb and they fire Dubas they would be paying tens of millions to guys that don't work for them anymore. Trying to hold up the team for more money went you are in the busiest time of year for a gm that didn't win a cup, extensions are needed a draft coming up. Dubas likes to gamble and he lost this one. Now what I would worry about a new gm trading one of the top players, panthers look currently like they are heading for the cup final.

  15. Comparing getting Babcock in 2015 to Dubas now? What the heck has Dubas done to deserve $7M a year??? You guys are delusional. Stop the Dubas ass kissing. Make it seem like this guy has won 5 cups. Stop it.

  16. You guys kill me. Somehow Dufus would have been the agent of change?? He locked the team into those 4 ridiculous contracts but he was going to change. Wow. Must be a Millenial thing. I love this as a Bruins fan. Leafs Nation = delusion. Carry on paesans….

  17. Mike: L
    Dave: W

Not sure why mike loves Dubas so much. Sure his regular seasons were top notch but at the end of the day he couldn’t build a playoff winning team. Then he comes to the table and wants MORE power and wants to muzzle Shannahan? Yeah no.

  18. One of the blocked trades was Knies for Hagel and Flurey glad that was blocked. At the end of the day we can and we will has not worked out. Kyle only gets along with guys who haven't won cups, hired spezza hired keef, pushed Lou out pushed babs out now trying to push Shanahan out. Too young i would have rather keept Lou, while we won one round with top talent Lou brought the lesser Islanders to two conference finals in the same time. Also Holl and Kerfoot keept over Mcann, all the first round pick s to get rid of previous problem s etc etc. The cupboard s are bare no picks and 4 guys over paid that haven't achieved anything, also Merazik, Murray and Campbell, great teams are built from the back end out, not the fowards down, Gio Holl Lilgren in top 6 d as well, go look at the final 4 teams d and goaltending and youll see what you need, also regular season who cares how well did having the best season in regular season history work out for Boston this year???
Ps Babcock, Shanahan and Lou = 7 cups
    Dubas, Keef, Spezza= 0 cups

  19. Dubas should have never been hired in the first place. This firing was long overdue.

  20. Based on how things are going for the Panthers…. Does this all seem like a bit of an overreaction
