so… the Suns brand new owner will ALSO buy the Yotes? Seems like a pipe dream. Unrealistic.

I know it’s going to take awhile, but I’m so anxious to hear anything about what they’re doing right now. At least it’s good to know there is a possible lifeline with Ishbia if all else fails

I’d pass. One of the major issues with the Coyotes is they always take a backseat to the Suns. Even when the Suns suck and the Coyotes were doing a playoff push Bally had them on FS2 or whatever.

I respect the suns owner for decisions he’s made, like putting them back on local TV over Bally, and not asking for Joker to be suspended, but what else has he done? Will the arena be completely revamped to fit hockey? Or will they just be tossed on a sheet of ice and say good luck?

Having this as a « worst » case scenario option makes me feel like theres a lot of hope for the team staying here even if we can’t get an arena. It’s hard to complain if they end up playing in footprint lol

Mesa certainly sounds promising, given the Mayor’s positive comments. But if it’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that I never take anything for granted with this team. They need to get their act together and put a proposal together that lays it all out there so misinformation can’t doom it like Tempe. Assuming it’s going to be similar to what they were looking to do there, it’s a lot of pieces and most people don’t understand the financing end of it. At least there’s not a toxic site to clean up and likely a lot fewer NIMBYs. This can be done but they need to make sure they get ahead of any opposition more proactively this time.

Ishbia and the Footprint Center doesn’t really seem like a real possibility to me. The building just doesn’t work and taxpayers just spent $200 million to renovate it. Hard to justify that as a sunk cost. Plus they would always be second fiddle to the Suns if they share an arena and ownership with Ishbia.

Really just feels like we’ll be getting the fiesta mall site, and honestly that’s fine with me. It’s like 10 minutes away from where the TED was supposed to be, likely would have better parking solutions, can build their residential developments to supplement team income as well as an entertainment district surrounding, just seems like the spot. I’m sure they’re redesigning plans and in negotiations over the land, but their mayor actively campaigning for us to build there and the prospect of no vote is too much to pass up.

Someone posted something very similar to this on the Kings subreddit the other day, stating that he met someone that works for the NHL at a bar, and he was told that Ishbia is already working with the league to purchase the Coyotes and combining the two teams into a refurbished downtown arena. The post was erased because it has nothing to do with the Kings (OP claimed he posted it there because he was a Kings fan and didn’t care about the Coyotes) but it was eerily similar to what this article is suggesting.

Why not build an arena next to Talking Stick Casino so they can play in the middle of all the people who have money to go to the games? Not to mention, its close to their practice facility.
