That’s fine and makes sense. EA GM in me wanted it at the baked in “yes” discount at just shy of 2 million but whatevs. He means a lot to this group and helps keep dad vibes in check. When they gave him the C there was no way he wasn’t getting resigned

Well deserved! A great leader on and off the ice. I’m happy he’s back for at least another year!

  3. schattmultz

The money obviously in inconsequential, but really thought he should retire. Would’ve liked to see a young guy in his spot

I imagine Zemgus is gone, which is fine.

I want a solid 4th line but I also want room for guys to have a chance next year.

Not sure how I feel. On one hand, his locker room presence is great and is a clear leader. On the other hand, he’s starting to look really slow. I’ll be curious on his role in the lineup this year.

One last shot at the playoffs for him. Hope he can stay healthy.

Not surprised, great leader and trying to give him one last chance to make playoffs with this team!

  8. Impossibills

I dont really know where he slots in anymore…he did not look great this past season

  9. Tactial_snail

nice! he definitely looked slower this year but i was hoping for a deal like this, the locker room loves him and we finally have playoff expectations, which i’m sure he’d love to help break the drought before he’s done. he’s also only 16 games away from 1000, and 8 points away from 600

$2.5 million is probably a liiiiiitle more than what I’d pay for Okposo, but the one year deal is what’s important here.

Even with the C, I’m curious if he plays every game when he’s healthy. He would be the ideal guy to rotate in and out of the lineup to give other guys a chance and to keep him fresh for the season.

I’m happy about this, with such a young team I feel like he will be needed as a veteran presence. It’s only a year and he has really embraced being a Sabre.

As much as I want to load the team up with practically children, having a good one or two veteran leader will do a lot more good than harm

  13. ojralphsasha

Guy should not have been paid more than 750k and yet here we go again

  14. YautjaProtect

Glad he’s back but not at almost 3mil.

Cool, so we’re for sure going to have one of our top prospects hanging out in Rochester so KO can contribute a single goal on the power play in spite of averaging a minute per game with a man advantage over an entire season.

Great leader, great human being, well past his prime.

A little expensive but it’s great to continue to have that veteran locker room presence. Hopefully he takes on the Anderson role this year and rotates in every game to help keep the bottom 6 fresh.

Honestly, it’s an overpay for a guy we’ve already overpaid 6 years. But, cap space is nearly meaningless this year so who cares

Love this and the $500k bonus if we win the Cup.

When I finally got a job that paid a little more and had more disposable income, a year and a half ago, Okposo’s was the first jersey I bought for myself. We’d seen so much turnover of players, Eichel had just been traded, jury was still out on a lot of our young players…I said to myself « whose jersey can I wear and feel good about 5 years from now, 10 years from now »

Really glad we get one more year with Okposo. I love watching him play.

  20. StuntmanSalt

It’s possible for both Okposo and Jeff Skinner to hit 1000 NHL games played next season!

  21. JoeSchmohawk93

With Larry gone, Ox and Girgs make the OG line if Gus comes back. I hope this doesn’t impede his ability to do that.

Edit: Would also be a meta move if the 2.5 is so he can go to Rochester without him being grabbed from waivers (not that that’s a real concern).

  22. MoneybagsMcghee

We needed him one more year. Young guys are almost ready to be leaders but not quite

  23. Joe77771

Would be awesome to see Oki get to the playoffs, honestly glad he’s giving it one more go as a Sabre.

If this doesn’t come with an agreement that he’s handing over the captaincy then I think it’s really dumb. Your captain should be the guy you put on the ice and rally around with 2 minutes left and you’re up or down by 1. And Okposo is instead in the healthy scratch territory, but you just can’t do that to you captain, so if he’s till C then it will be another season of him holding up a spot on the fourth line regardless of how many better players are available.
