A big day in Calgary, indeed, with the hiring of GM Craig Conroy, a former Flames player. I remember Conroy from his time with the Blues as a player, I wish him the best with the team. IMHO, the players will like him a lot and react positively.
The Leafs should move Matthews, and Nylander, while they still can. Bring in a solid, defensively sound first pairing defenceman, a good two way center that can play 2nd, or 3rd line effectively, and a goal scoring, power forward winger that can play on the second line. They would likely get some picks and/or prospects in return too.

In todays nhl contracts are everything. Trades are glory but what makes teams excel is depth from having salary cap space. That is the job of the GM. If he is giving the player everything then he is not doing his job. If you have a good scouting team and the players demand a lot then trade them when they have good value and draft good players. Of course part of signing players is to identify they are going to be good and lock them up to a ltd before they get too expensive. Something that cost the flames in Chuckie.

I’m looking forward to seeing a bit of a rebuild in Calgary starting, and having them move into a new barn with tons of optimism surrounding the franchise.
Rumour mill has Roy being next coach of Rangers. Not sure what to think about that. Might work out, but might be a disaster. 50/50 I guess. The core of 3 with the Leafs have been spoiled by Daddy Dubas, so next GM will have his hands full. I can see Nylander asking for too much, and gets traded. I can see Matthews asking for too much and over a shorter term again, and gets traded. Going to be totally crazy around the Leafs for the next 5 weeks.

I think Dubas did a better than average job bringing in the revolving cheaper talent required due to having your top 4 players representing a significant portion of salary. Those players tend to be rentals on expiring contracts, or ones on short-term deals, or one of the excellent veteran talent Dubas brought in. Having Spezza and Giordano getting minimum contracts is a stroke of genius. The players that came in this year unfortunately weren't enough to beat an excellent Florida team which beat Boston and most likely will win the Stanley Cup. No shame in losing, so either sign at least Marner Matthews, trade Nylander and use that extra $ to improve across the entire bottom end. If Robertson stays healthy, and Knies stays, the lack of depth in the organization won't be as apparent next year

Calgary has played a bump and grind style of hockey for the last few years. That won't cut it these day's. They need the next generation most talented or skillful player. That would create some open ice for other's on the offensive end. Not have to rely on Toffolli to skate by himself and score goals more times than not. Kadri would be their best piece to make a great move

Toffoli is a player I would want to build around or even find a piece for him to grow with….Matthew Phillips and toffoli seems like a good combo…. I feel as though that they will have to trade Lindholm and Hanifan because getting rid of backland doesn't make such sense. Maybe Phillips can take that #1 role… I would actually like to see Miller play with Huberdeu I think that will be a good line…
I predicted everything that happened…back in November. The Team would flame out, Dubas would amd Mathews would be gone and ShanaPLAN Shanahan would shoulder NO responsibility. ANYONE who paid attention and were totally honest, saw the Red Flags. Isn't it fascinating how ShanaPLAN Shanahan now wants an experienced GM "with bite and can make the hard decisions"? Who buys this sh#t? He vetted every move Fancy Stat Dubas made!!! Does the Prez have "bite and can he make the hard decisions"? HE WANTED TO RE-SIGN FANCY STATS!!! It was ShanaPLAN Shanahan who plucked a kid from the "O" who did nothing as GM. Yes, the "brilliant" Prez, took another's word that called him "inteligent". And how did that work out? Now the "brilliant" Prez will hire a failed GM for Calgary. The very guy who hired Sutter!!! The same guy who allowed Goudreau to escape . Yes, and the very same GM who traded away Tkachuk for a 29 year-old and sign him and a other 29 year tear-old for a decade at a kings ransome. This is the "BITE" the Toronto Maple Leafs need? Indeed the much celebrated ShanaPLAN was popular…even though no one able to define it…lose often, secure high draft choices??? As long as ShanaPlan Shanahan keeps his job, the Leafs will continue to fail. Since his retirement he's accomplished NOTHING!!! It's same old story, as longs as you're Blue and White you are the best…the moment you're gone, every blemish is pointed out; even those that don't exist! Don't count on the dimwitted "hockey gurus" in Toronto to expose tge truth…they know what side their bread is buttered on. Like Dubas, they'll love Treliving (or who ever becomes GM), until they're gone. I can't wait to here what they will have to say about Lord Shanny.
perhaps Kyle Dubas should have respected those "reasonable and consistent but private discussions" and not turn his end of season presser into the gong show that it was when he used his family as a now publicly negotiated bargaining chip… and make no mistake, there was no other reason to offer that information up – everyone knows that job is hard on families – no brainer. Even to answer the question – you skirt that subject – even though everyone in the room knows the answer – yes, it's a tough job under a microscope – nobody thought it was nothing but sunshine and crackerjacks all the live long day for the Dubas family.

I’m sure that Matthews is concerned that he won’t get exactly what he wants with the new contract. I heard it was going to be 15 million x four years. Dubas would give that contract but maybe the new GM will not. The greed of the top four of Toronto allows no money for defence and goaltending. They’ll never go far in the playoffs with such greed.
Chris Johnston was just saying Matthews has not changed his mind on signing with Toronto. I think he will still stay with Toronto and I am not just saying that because I am a Leafs fan. If Chris said that usually he is always right 99% chances on what sess on players. It all comes down to the direction of the team
