Liljegren has looked great this tournament – I definitely would love to see him with a coach that doesn’t play Justin Holl over him….

I can’t wait for next season. I miss all the boys so much already.

Liljegren is going to takeoff when Keefe gets fired. He was easily our best D during stretches last season. Being able to play through some of his struggles instead of being scratched will be massive for his confidence.

Unfortunately in the NHL u never get that kind of space, but I think he will definitely play a bigger role next season

  5. Keefe is really holding him back, the same can be said for Sandin. Too bad they traded him…

Give this guy the job on opening night and every night and the green light to play offense and join the rush.

  7. HemiKooks

We all know this guy has a lot more in the tank. It’s Keefe holding him back.

Also, where the fuck has that swag and personality come from? Dances in, snipes and then sheathes his stick like a sword all in one motion while cellying on on leg.

Come on man, take the Goku weighted training gi off this dude next season.

This guy better be a consistent top 4 d next year

Does anyone remember the beginning of the 21-22 season when the Leafs started out the year on a pretty bad losing streak culminating in a 7-1 loss to the Penguins?

The forechecking scheme they used called for a lot more defensemen pinching and activation. Since we had a bunch of slow ass dmen who couldn’t recover when out of position, it lead to a ton of odd man rushes which lead to lopsided losses to bad teams. After Pittsburgh, they switched it up to a less aggressive forechecking scheme that was designed to minimize odd man rush counters. They ended up having the 3rd best offensive output of the lockout era while being the 7th best defensive team in the league.

This is why you don’t see this in Toronto.

Liljegren and Rielly kinda stand out on a team with McCabe – slow, Brodie – incredibly slow, Gio – slow and Holl – slow. Leafs dmen pinch to keep the puck in the zone and that’s about it. I think Keefe wanted to play a more aggressive scheme but the d he had wasn’t capable.
