Fait amusant : le fondateur des Panthers de la Floride, Wayne Huizenga, voulait à l’origine nommer l’équipe « Block Busters » en l’honneur de sa société de location de films. La LNH ne l’a pas permis.

The Cats have one of the nicer logos in the league
MissionIncredible
The Block Buster Champs!
Just hard hitting BBC dominating the league moving forward
ToiseOfChoice
I thought the first one was a kid with a Super Soaker for a second
BU-ffalo
Okay, the logo is rough but I actually like the name. You make your goal horn an air raid siren and have your goal song/taking the ice song be [« Blockbuster » by Sweet](https://youtu.be/Y64211sjSko)
macaroni_3000
as it turns out, that would not have aged well
FalseWeeknd
And I thought the Rocky Mountain eXtreme was bad.

A league with the Florida Block Busters, Rocky Mountain Xtreme and Hampton Roads Rhinos would’ve been so much fun
StarchyAndDelicious
Ahhh the good ole Nabsco Florida Blockbusters presented by 3M…
My favorite hockey franchise.
Beerfoodbeer
What the hell is that, Wayne’s grandsons art class project, jesus, my eyes are bleeding
ThadtheYankee159
Imagine the jokes people would make about this
jdeputy
Looks like a beer league logo

They also had to buy the name Florida Panthers in 1991 from a group trying to get an MLB expansion team in Tampa.
TheNantucketRed
Wow! What a difference!
zombieguy1987
Huh, now I don’t know what would’ve been a worse NHL name. That or the Rocky Mountain Xtreme.
Cheesy_Pita_Parker
Wayne also founded [Waste Management](https://www.wm.com/), which is really where he pulled this idea from
joecarter93
And then their name would be changed to the Florida “Net” Flix .
TheBonePoet
After the Jazz moved to Utah and the NHL said yes to « The Mighty Ducks » I didn’t think anything could be more ridiculous. That would have been, so +1 on the rejection.
EctoRiddler
If they were ever to be named Blockbusters the only suitable logo would have been the blockbuster video logo.
Mills_Miles
Our man Gary ain’t perfect, but thank goodness he can stop travesties like this

Huizenga was one of the worst owners and that’s saying something. He had the infamous fire sale after the Marlins won the world series, claiming he had suffered « financial losses » from it. In spite of that, they won a *second* world series in 2003.
Panthers are similar in that regard. They go to a cup final and then go nowhere. Except it took them much longer to get back.
Clovis_Winslow
Super rich dudes and absolute cringe tastes.
An iconic duo.

I actually wish this came into being.
There’s a certain 80s/company softball team vibe to it that I love.
HelpIThinkImASoup
Now Florida’s rivalry with the Net Flickers makes much more sense.
FesteringLion
Meanwhile the same league allowed « the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim »… A movie franchise and the only team to break all previous naming conventions by slipping in an adjective and putting the city name last.
Clearly Bettman foresaw the downfall of the VHS/DVD, the rise of streaming, and the continued monopolization of all things entertainment by Disney and bent right over.
IntrepidSwan7932
I dig the mustachioed hockey player.
roaringelbow
This can’t be true
IntrepidSwan7932
While I do think the NHL went way overboard with animal mascots in the 90’s, Panthers are still better than this.
But I will say the potential dumb phrases, and slogans would’ve been spectacular.
7screws
That second logo is one of the most generic logos of all time. I do like a good white/blue/yellow colorway though
toronto_programmer
Just waiting for the Coyotes to get moved to Houston and become the Net Flicks

What would they have been called now? The Netflixes? The HBO Maxes? The Florida Disney Pluses?
JuNoNoWhatJewrTalkin
As long as there was a rival netflix team id be down.
Tenabrus
Blockbuster is also the name of a plumbing company
Parenthisaurolophus
Honestly probably for the best given the connotation of that term as it relates to real estate rather than a now defunct movie rental chain.
They’d have to rename themselves the Net Flickers eventually
UniverseHufflePuff
That team would have folded so fast 😂
GoRangers5
Panthers is a Neggflix name, b.
goatlover1966
So glad they didn’t, and there are Florida panthers. It fits!
xfcbot
It would’ve been fun to call them the “busters”
Additional-Air-7851
Huizenga fucking sucked and was one of the biggest reasons the franchise was always underwater. I remember when he would force the team to trade down in the draft to save on signing bonuses. Worst owner in the league. Didn’t get decent ownership till viola bought the team.
