I haven’t listened to this yet, but I was thinking that one of the key benefits of hiring Conroy over going with an external candidate is he is far less likely to make changes for the sake of making changes.
It is something I have noticed in my career that when you hire an external manager they often come in changing a lot of things because it is more familiar to them, or they want to make their impact felt. An internal hire will generally be more aware of what is or is not working and making changes around the margins.
He called it his ‘dream job,’ didn’t he. A smart , resourceful guy that is enthusiastic about being there, really makes this look like an excellent move.
