  1. Starting to believe the others…. you are not a Canuck fan/supporter.  This is the third time I've heard you say something like"i'dont know'' ''no there not ''what,  there not gonna win this''

  2. I'm surprised you didn't say anything about this Stanley cup being bought. Even as a die-hard wings fan, I recognize it. The wings payroll was 64 mill. League average was 33. And the 2nd highest In the league was the rangers at 57. Loved this run, but it's my least favorite championship in my lifetime because it was pretty unfair for the rest of the league

  3. As a Hurricanes fan that was such a tough pill to swallow in '02. Oddly enough that was my first year getting into hockey. I was 6 and my dad (a Rangers fan) took me to my first ever hockey game that year at PNC Arena (known as the Raleigh Entertainment & Sports Arena at the time) and I fell in love with the game. My memory from when I was younger is insanely faint but I have slight memories of watching that Final on the couch with dad and that sealed the deal for me on hockey. I knew it was over after the triple OT loss in Game 3. I didn't know much about how impressive Detroit was at the time but that Red Wings team was so stacked it was nuts. I'd like to think it was a much more competitive series than it appears on paper but Carolina didn't stand much of a chance. At least we got ours in 2006 but man if Game 3 could've gone the other way who knows maybe?

  4. Look at the guys who rounded out the roster who aren't HOFers
Holmstrom, Draper, McCarty, Maltby, Olafsson, Duchesne, Fischer. Thats a bunch of realgud NHLers. Deveraux and to a lesser extent Dandenault were the only weak links on that team.

  5. Just to show how good datsyuk was, Aaron ward, who played for the canes that year, said he’d rather face any red wing one on one than datsyuk. On a team with all those great players, a 23 rookie that was about 170 pounds was the best player on the team. For anyone who ever questions why wings fan say he’s one of if not the best ever, it’s because watching him every night, you saw something every time he was out there that was just literally unbelievable. I’ve never seen a player as skilled, as smart, and as great a 200 foot player as datsyuk. He’s the best ever. There’s him and there’s everyone else.

  6. I went to game 7 against the Avs that playoffs. Greatest night ever! I was 9 years old lol

  7. This was the second time where Hasek beat Roy when it mattered, other being 1998 in Nagano. Why no mention of Roy statue of liberty blunder ? One of the biggest blunders ever.Hasek better than Roy and its not even close.

  8. They had the most hall of famers of any Wings championship, though a lot of those players were over the hill and having a last hurrah. They resemble the '67 Leafs in that way. There was just enough gas left in the tank for one final run. For my money, the '97 Wings team had the most intimidating playoff run. St. Louis was the only team that really gave them trouble, and even the Blues fell apart after Lidstrom scored from center ice. Yes, he was a dagger in the heart for so many teams.

  9. After the Wings beat the ever living shit out of the Aves there was some follow up on who the Wings would be playing against.

Over the radio the chuckles began coming in, as they began playing ‘sweet Caroline, dun, dun, dun….’ trolling, lol.

  10. I'm a die-hard Wings fan, but with all the people claiming the Wings in 02 were the most stacked ever, I have to ask:

does no one remember the 70s Canadiens?

    in 70-71

    Beliveau
    Cournoyer
    Lemaire
    Guy Lapointe
    Henri Richard
    Frank Mahavolich
    Jacques Laperriere
    Serge Savard
    Dryden
    Vachon

all HOFers. Then add to that:

    J.C. Trembley
    Peter Mahavolich
    Mickey Redmond

in 71-72 LaFleur joins the team. By 72-73, Steve Shutt and Larry Robinson – both HOFers – are there. Bob Gainey arrives in 73-74. Jacques Lemaire by 75-76. Rod Langway comes on board in 78-79.

They had SIXTEEN DIFFERENT Hall of Famers on that roster over a 9 year span, with a core group of 9 together for SEVEN SEASONS.

Yes, it was a totally different era, and a completely different way of doing business. Still, that era in Montreal is arguably the best 9 season stretch ever played. 6 Cups in 9 years.

  11. Would you say that this was the greatest team ever assembled? I was thinking about this and searched your channel for a video, glad I found it. 🤙

  12. Very glad you revisited this one. It felt like you glossed over this season in your history video.

  13. Oh the good ol days. That roster from 1997 to 2008 was a thing of beauty. To add to that, I dont think you could put as much talent on a roster as that 01 02 detroit roster. Unreal amount of talent.

  14. 1:15, I can honestly say that every one of the Conn Smyth trophies didn't go where they should've during our 4 Cups

  15. Just two notes on this one – first, I find it funny that you mentioned in the review of the '98 Wings that that team would not be able to be kept together with a salary cap when THIS TEAM is absolutely LAUGHABLE in considering trying to keep them together with a salary cap… only the Oilers dynasty of the mid 80's even holds a candle in terms of teams that couldn't be kept together in a salary cap era (unless, of course, you consider players willing to take marked pay cuts in order to be part of a legacy, which this team had.) Second, I think one of the things that's overlooked with this team is the defensive abilities of the centermen. which I don't think we've ever had. For a 1-2 punch, you have Federov and Draper- as Federov's legs began to age, this became his bread-and-butter (while still providing modest offensive gains) and Draper who made a career out of his defensive prowess. And then add to that Yzerman, the man who gave up the HONEST POTENTIAL of being the guy to challenge Gretzky for some of his records because the team needed him to be a two-way centerman instead of just focusing on points… and in the wings (no pun intended) you have a young (ish) Datsyuk coming up. As far as teams with defensive prowess at center, what team has ever been this promising?

  16. The thing i found most impressive about this team, which i doubt u will ever see again, is the fact that the players basically paid Brett Hull salary to get him. How many players would do that now? My guess is not very many.

  17. The game in that series that you have to hang on Patrick Roy is game 6. Colorado at home, with momentum and eliminate the wings with one win, then Roy decided to get cocky and do the statue of liberty pose after make a save and then loses the puck and the wings score, Game 6 loss goes squarely on Roy's Shoulders and then it just went down hill after that.

  18. When you have Federov, Lindstrom, Datsuk you can't lose. 3 of the most skilled players I ever saw.

  19. Great Video. Not sure how I'm just now seeing this. One thing I'd like to add about Fedorov. He played defense for stretches in 97 and 02. He played some games against Colorado in the playoffs in 02. If he actually wanted to play defense he would've been one of the best in the league.

  20. Carolina put up more of a fight than you give them credit for. Game 2 was tied at 1 with 6 about 6 minutes left, but then Lidstrom got the win. If Lidstrom doesn’t come through, that could have been a much different series.

  21. Hasek shoulda won the Conn Smythe this season. He absolutely brickwalled Colorado in the final six periods of the WCF. He was dominant, and showed his value to a great team like Detroit, whom were lacking that elite backstopper.

  22. I wouldn't say that Carolina wasn't ready. They gave the Red Wings all they could handle in the first 3 games. Stole game 1, were tied in game 2 until about 6 minutes left, and led game 3 2-1 with just over a minute left. After that, they had no chance. But it was much more competitive than you give them credit for.

  23. Scotty actually put Federov behind the blue line because of an injury to someone. Fedorov probably would have competed with teammate Lindstrom for the Norris trophy on a year to year basis.

  24. add great depth and players who played great roles like holmstrom, draper, maltby
