    1) Parayko – 4 full sized orange cones, 1 bag new pucks.

    2) Krug – A kiddie pool, bag of used pucks

    3) Leddy – A white sheet, a stick, pair of skates

    4) Scandella – A gatorade cooler, rip fuel, used smelling salt

The weird part is if Parayko wasn’t the defacto #1, things would be quite a bit different.

If he could be the complimentary top pairing guy with a true #1, the whole facr of the D changes. Leddy on Colt’s left side really doesn’t make a lot of sense. I have to assume Doug’s paln was the Colt was that #1 guy and Krug woulf then be his compliment. But it didn’t pan out.

The other glaring issue is that Faulk and Krug play more of less the same role. But they are also 2nd pairing guys. Putting Krug on the third pairing and each of them then having a solid defensive partner would be fine. But Rosen and Krug don’t really make a lot of sense together.

I would hesitate to move Colt. His deal is not nearly as bad as people thing it is. And this D minus Colt… oh, sweet baby Jesus, we might as well play all AHL guys and Faulk at that point.

Moving him means you no only need to top pairing LD, but also a RD now.

The only silver linign to moving Colt is he may well bring in a good return. But if there aren’t TWO legit top pair D-men out there to sign/trade for, what good is that return.

I want to see more of Calle Rosen tbh. He’s got lots of potential, but I get not wanting to waste it until be have a more stable Defensive D Core.

I understand the concern of « who replaces the minutes » if you trade these guys, but at some point, you just have to dump these contracts now. If you have any takers (even for Faulk), make the trade. You’re probably not going to effectively replace those minutes next year or the year after, but you’re definitely not going anywhere with the defense as currently constructed. Give yourself the cap space to potentially replace those minutes in 2024 or 2025. I still think you can have a « quick retool » or whatever ownership wants if you rip the band aid off now.

  5. If we can get rid of Leddy and Scandella to give us the minutes to see what we have with Tucker, Perunovich, Rosen and Kessel while we retool

Would love to be able to trade 2-3 of Scandella, Faulk, Leddy, or Krug. We clearly need to revamp our defense and get Parayko a partner capable of playing lots of minutes

Honestly, move heaven and earth for a true top pair left hand d man to pair with Parayko, and everything else falls into place. It’s pure fantasy, but picture a Jacob Slavin playing with Parayko. Boom.

Short of that, find a J-Bo type guy to pair with him and try Leddy with Faulk. Deal Krug and move up Perunovich to open cap space. That D corps could be very solid. It’s really 1-2 big decisive moves that open up the team to major success. Then develop the young forward group and maybe add 1 more guy to the top 6. It won’t be instant, but they’ll be back in the playoffs before ya know it.
