If by « big deals » they mean 3rd line depth contracts, then I’d gladly have them both back next season. I somehow doubt that’s what they’re both looking for, though.

ERod needs to find some consistency before he gets any sort of « big deal »

Your take on ERod is accurate. Your take on Nieto is a bit harsh. He would be fine on the 4th line at 1M. And I think you’re wrong about JTC. No one is gonna pay him 4-5 million to be a 3rd line center and no one besides the Avs is gonna pay him 4-5 million to be a 2nd line center. The market isn’t there and the Avs have so many needs without enough money that paying JTC 4.5×4 to be the 2C is a good option for them. JTC not only improved in assists but he improved in corsi and fenwick stats. His line mates rave about him. Rantanen said “he’s always in the right place” I know it’s the “right” thing to say that he’s not a 2C but considering that he improved during one of the most difficult seasons we’ve ever watched while other players withered, he will only benefit from having the opportunity to play with a consistent healthy line. If he puts up 65 or more points next season as 2C on a healthy Avs team, everyone will be very happy. I think they are gonna have to trade Girard to make all the pieces fit but JTC is most likely gonna be on the Avs in my opinion.

Compher is a solid 3C and would be worth $2M AAV at most. ERod has some flash but no finish. 2W at best and I’d say maybe $3M AAV. Whether we can afford or want either is debatable.
