  1. Are they underdogs yes. Are they the favorites. ALSO YES. Here's why, they're underdogs because they barely made it in and honestly looked like they were DOA before the Penguins choked it away. However they are also NOT underdogs because this team won the presidents trophy just last year. They have the formula and a lot of key pieces that were on last years team. They beat the leagues best regular season team of all time and that gave them the boost they needed to step it up a notch. Now they're playing with house money and they are about to (potentially) win the whole darn thing and giving fans in Florida something to cheer about especially after watching TB and their successes over the last few years.

  2. By your theory there will never ever be an underdog after the first round. If an 8th seed beats a 1st seed will the 8th seed team automatically become the new number 1 seed? They beat the best team so now they are the new best team. My point is massive underdogs can win and still remain underdogs.

  3. Their going to be the underdogs because people will still pick Vegas over Florida.

  4. I think the leaf’s energy was zapped after they lost the second home game. Yes they came swinging but failed. The hurricane’s went from a category 5 to a small tropical storm because of the 4overtime loss then we really saw it in the third game the hurricanes were tired because of the back to back overtime games at home.

  5. Im a panthers fan, and yea its obvious theyre gonna be underdogs against vegas or dallas simply due to the standings and the experience both those western teams have. I still hope my cats can find the magic again in the finals 🤞

  6. Its retarded bet 365 has Vegas as the betting favorite to win the cup even tho they’re not even in the 4th round yet🤦‍♂️

  7. Carolina was missing 2 of their top scorers, one of them being Max Pacioretti. The Panthers were the favorites IMO just because of that

  8. I'm biased as a Panthers fan, but I'm really only worried if the Stars somehow come back from down 3-0 to win it, because that could spur a run like the Boston comeback sparked our run. No disrespect to Vegas- they are a great team and Adin Hill is a really great story. But there's just something special about this Panthers team. You see it on the bench after each goal. You see it in the press box where the management is. This team is getting more excited, having more fun, and getting even more motivated with each win.

  9. They are underdogs according to the regular season standings, but they’re definitely not underdogs anymore based on how they’re playing now, at least they aren’t in my book. In each of the first 2 rounds, I predicted Boston and Toronto to win those series at the beginning of each one, but after they beat Toronto in 5, I picked Florida to beat Carolina in the ECF. I didn’t pick Florida to sweep Carolina, but I thought they’d win it it 6 or 7, and that’s what I’m predicting against VGK.

  10. I had boston over florida but only by 60/40. Florida had a great team that could not get it together in the first half of the season. I am worried over this Vegas team in the same way I was Boston. Toronto did not have a stronger roster either.. Thats just an illusion of the media hype their players get.

  11. If you look at the regular season records vs the Bruins or the Leavers, i had no doubt, that both series could go either way. No big surprises, only the american fixation on numbers hinders you to see, that the Panthers team, which won the president last year, is a brutal good one. They changed their style the whloe year and worked on it, and as it counzed, they delivered. No Cinderella here.

  12. For me it's not so much their underdogs going into each series, it's after the fact that they beat all the favoured teams and not one media outlet gave them any credit at all. It was all about what the other teams didn't do or got wrong. I've been following this franchise since they been playing in Downtown Miami and this group is one of the most focused and resilient teams I've ever seen. Good luck the rest of the way boys, keep proving them wrong and win it all.🐅🐯🏆

  13. Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final will be Eric Staal's 100th career playoff game. This is Eric Staal's 18th NHL season. It would have been his 20th if it had not been for the 2004-2005 NHL Lockout, and him not being signed by any NHL team for the 2021-2022 season. He also played in three shortened seasons – the 2012-2013 lockout, and 2-COVID seasons – 2019-2020 and 2020-2021. Eric Staal would have had 500 NHL goals by now. He scored 14 goals this season and currently stands at 455 career goals. He is 45 goals shy of 500. He can get his 500th NHL goal by scoring 15 goals each season for the next three seasons. No word yet on what will happen to Eric Staal after this season. Will Florida re-sign him? Does he want to keep playing? Does he want the 500th goal? Will any other team sign him? Will he retire? If Florida wins the Stanley Cup this season, he should return! He could be the 50th or 51st member of the NHL 500+ goals club. His competition for the # 50 spot is Patrick Kane. Evgeni Malkin will be the 48th member of the NHL 500+ goals club, and Joe Pavelski will be the 49th.

  14. I agree that Florida is not the underdogs. It's been brought up, but I don't think that enough is being made of the fact that Florida had the best record last season. They traded one star for another. That trade has worked out. The core is the same and in it's prime. The only real difference between them and previous winning teams is the fact that they almost missed the playoffs. This was probably due to a combination of bad luck, players having bad years, doldrums after winning the President's Cup. Midway through the season their were advanced metrics that said the Panthers were the team most likely to improve due to low percentage of scoring chances that were converted.

A team having a great season but not winning until the next season or a few season's later has been happening in the NHL for my whole life. In 1979, the Islanders had the best record and the following season they had their worst season in half a dozen years and won the cup and then 3 more. Edmonton won after a great season and being swept in the finals the year before. Then Calgary won after some great seasons and so on… till more recently Tampa Bay doing the same…

  15. Having watched the vgk’s game last time, Florida wins the cup for sure. The team is built for PO hockey.

  16. The panthers are getting stronger as the playoffs go further. 7 games against Boston. 5 games against Toronto and a total a** kicking 4 games against. Carolina

  17. They have to be considered Underdogs regardless of their success…theyre potentially gonna end up playing 4 of the top 5 teams in the league.

  18. The test is: If a team would rather NOT face them, they're not the underdogs anymore.
I'm betting Vegas would rather play Carolina at this point.
