I'd be looking at everything including strength and conditioning. Are you sure Marner wouldn't play better with 5kg of muscle on his frame? A buck sixty pounds is light for any professional athlete. I'd be fine with running them back if you upgraded the conditioning and recovery program.
Dubas wasn’t fired for performance he was fired for overplaying his hand and asking for more money and more control, which I understand he thought he was in the best place to ask for money and control and the MLSE and Shanahan thought differently.
Sheldon keefe is a fucking hack. And i've been saying this for years. If you saw the series against florida, it is obvious there is a.coaching problem. The leafs walked into game 1 sloppy and unorganized. They couldn't break out of the defensive zone that game. They don't move the puck like real contenders. And they don't fight in the corners like real contenders. The same issues the team had in 2021 against montreal. Keefe changed his lineups more than he changes his strategies. And his players looked unmotivated throughout the series. Watching Brodie and matthews play throughout the series was painful due to the lackluster effort both put in, yet keefe never got them going. And these reoccuring issues has lead to repeated embarrassments in the playoffs over and over again. The sooner he's gone, the better.

Just finished listening to the whole video, which was well done btw, and John you’re 100% correct in that the Islanders roster was no where near this Leafs roster, and yet JT still has the same amount of playoff wins for both franchises. And Lucas is correct in saying JT should be stripped of his captaincy. He was only the captain of the Isles because he was by far the best player, but not really a leader in any way. Lee has been a much better captain, and I think all Isles fans would agree.

No gritty players on the ice, Wayne Simmonds should have been playing as many games as possible leading up to playoffs. A team needs two to four core pieces plus core goalie. The rest of the team need to be made up of players not drafted, picks who are way down on the list show grit. They are the guys making little money and have lots to prove to continue to play. Why fight hard when you have the money already in your pocket. Too many highly paid players are more concerned how they look on and off the ice than keeping production at a certain level.
Keep the coach . What is needed is how the players are used in the play offs .
The problem is mitch can get you in the playoffs. He can play on any line anywhere and get 90 points. What do you do?

Tavares is no where close to a point per game in his playoff time with Leafs, he is slow even in first 5 seasons and lacking in that extra ROR effort…and he’s surrounded by huge stars here

Can't see Keefe staying on when Treliving comes in as the GM. 1st priority is finding out $ and term Matthews wants. He will ask high, then settle lower, but what happens with him dictates everything after. If he wants more than 13M. I would just trade him, let someone else like the Kings deal with him. If they were willing to start this season with a lame duck gm in dubas and not extend his contract , they should of fired him and moved on to trotz . They missed that opportunity and now the GM candidates are not to great this off-season. The islanders went to back to back conference finals without Tavares , Tavares signing in Toronto ruined the rebuild Toronto was doing , everyone knew you had to pay the young guys coming up and producing and then to bring in an outsider give him the C and way way overpay him , then turn around and tell your young player's who are out producing him to take less is insane . Islander were better off without Tavares based 100% on results on the ice .

Last season was the time to look at trading a top guy when you had Calgary trading Thachuk who would have more grit. I do not think I heard anyone from the leafs even mention interest. Thinking Marner a winger going back would have helped both teams. Calgary needed a play maker and a more gritty team to allow him space. Leafs would have got some grit back. Perfect fit for Tavares and Nylander plays with Mathews. Left wing is where Toronto was weak.
