Absolute legend. Amazing player, wrote many exciting stories for us in Toronto, and did it with grace and humility. He was our rock for many years, and will go down as one of the greatest players to ever wear the maple leaf on their jersey. Good times. Thank you, Mats!

I am so lucky to have seen the great swedes like Sundin, Forberg, Lidstroem, Alfredsson, the Sedin twins and many more Swedish players play hockey.
I still have his autograph on my old jersey. It's one of my most prized possessions.
Crazy how the Leafs couldn't put together a half decent squad in his entire time there. He was the embodiment of what a Captain should be 👌

When we were kids playing hockey we always got into fights about who would be sundin or forsberg
I fricken love how hyped Joe Bowen got everyone when the Leafs scored.
I'm a Habs fan…he played for Quebec and Toronto…yet he is 1 player I respect a ton…could have been my captain any day!

No offense intended to Mats, but that was the worst trade ever!
The Leafs got close to the finals in 93 and 94, in the 93 year, they were one goal away from playing the Habs in the final; then the Leafs trade Clark for Sundin.
The Leafs only got that close once again, and the heart was gone. Sundin was a great player, and he piled up some great individual stats but hockey is a team game, and the role of Captain was never filled like it had been with Clark, and then Dougie.
The Leafs gave up on Clark, gave up on Potvin, and had they stuck with them, they would have won a Cup! The trade with Quebec also helped the Nordiques and set them up to win the Cup the following year when they went to Colorado. I was never happy with any of it!!!
