Yeah I’m not that hyped about this one.

    🤮

Open to being wrong, just as much as I’m open to being wrong about how I think Adam Driver and Margot Robbie will be as Reed and Sue Richards, but I’m not looking forward to either.

  3. NotFoley

He was the coach during the Tom Wilson game lol

  4. mbsmilford

At least this retread has won cups. I was hoping for someone new.

At the time, I was pretty disappointed when they replaced Buck Showalter with Joe Torre. You can imagine my attitude changed after a while. I’m not saying Laviolette will bring championships in four of the next five seasons, but I’m staying hopeful for the Rangers.

    Edit for spelling.

Everyone hated Paul Maurice and look how that turned out

  8. GloriousPurpose_

If he can get the rangers to have an actual system that’d be great. I still can’t believe how Gallant’s Rangers looked like they were playing pond hockey basically all year.

I just hope Laviolette gives kakko and lafreniere bigger roles and chances to develop. He doesn’t seem to have a great history of developing younger players but we’ll see I guess.

This is 100% a downgrade, very sad to hear.

I was hoping the team would at least hold out and wait to see what happened to Keefe, but my guess is CBJ is also pining for Laviolette, and Drury doesn’t want to wait too long to find out on an “if” (Keefe still employed by TML).

Sucks it seems we didn’t even interview Leach or Knoblauch, but tbh, the odds of winning quickly with a 1st year NHL HC are pretty slim. Took Bednar and Cooper >5 years before they finally won. Sullivan won pretty early in, but it was after 2 seasons. It’s pretty clear what the team’s priority is rn.

Laviolette usually gets the best out of his guys in the first year, so the expectations will be high out the gate.

Will reserve my judgement until it’s official. And if it does happen, I’ll wait to see how the team plays under him. But off the rip this feels pretty lateral/uninspired.

I was holding out hope for Sullivan damn

This team deserves the mediocrity. Such a crappy choice.

  13. Cpzd87

I’m willing to bet almost anything that the rangers will not win a cup under him. This is the most underwhelming hire of all hires. We will probably get to an ECF or maybe even a SCF but I promise you, we are not winning the cup, which last i checked is the whole fucking point of this

  14. AIC_333

Short-term solution after short-term solution with this franchise, and none of them ever solve anything. Guess I’ll watch another pointless 82 games as I always do…

  15. Loserrus

With this hiring is this a win now or build?

  16. Key-Tip-7521

If and when it becomes official, the people will be excited that he’s the coach. Disapointed that he might become the coach. Retread hire. Maybe could have waited for another coach like maybe Keefe(not saying I want him). But whatever. I’m not Drury.

  17. OBlastSRT4

To be fair, I’ve been happy about our last few hires so not being happy about this hire might be a good thing.

  18. ThePlatanoKing

Unbelievably dogshit hire that would just cement the complete waste of talent this era of Rangers hockey is

  19. fuckwhereami

    Ugggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

    Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Not hyped for this. But I was hyped for the last two hires. So maybe I will be proven wrong. But I’m not gonna hold my breath.

This “Win Now” mentality doesn’t go hand in hand with Laviolette. The last time he won a cup, Sidney Crosby was a rookie.

  20. Nyrfan303

I’m perfectly fine with it. Everyone gets pissed about “retreads”, but they’re some of the best coaches since they have had success before. We also shouldn’t take the risk of hiring a young, inexperienced guy since our window to win is now.

  21. Superrandy

Dogshit hire. Lav hasn’t been a good coach in quite awhile. His teams have been trending downwards for years. He’s a dinosaur in our game. GG may not have had a system, but whatever he did was statistically superior than Lav over the past 5 years.

We know exactly who Lav is, we’ll get to the playoffs because our roster will be good, but we’ll get bounced out again because our coach will be shit.

Not too mention Lav seems like absolutely the wrong coach at the wrong time. He doesn’t play a system that matches up well with Canes and Devils. He doesn’t play youth, when we desperately need growth from ours. Completely uninspiring hire for a city that deserves more.

  22. sd4181984

It’s a retread , and l was ready to start hating, but the guy has a ring. I’m a pyscho tho I would’ve been cool with a torts sequel, so disregard my ridiculous opinions

  23. Silvergeist95

Wellp, if this comes true, enjoy a couple more years of mediocrity fellas. They might be great in the regular season and make it to the playoffs, but they ain’t gettin’ anywhere with Lavi.
