  1. These 2000 – team playoff histories have really reminded me about how much the 3-point game era has affected NHL hockey. 100 points, which used to be a benchmark for a team having a pretty outstanding season, is now almost a prerequisite for playoffs.

  2. I think it’s very interesting that before their recent two Cups, the Bolts were arguably the toughest opponent of 2 other Cup-winning teams (the 2016 Pens and 2018 Caps). If the Lightning found a way to win those game 7s, they may have even more Cups now.

One can only wonder if the Islanders can follow suit, since you can also argue that they have been Tampa’s toughest outting in the last two seasons. Fun stuff to think about…

  3. Remember the last player to make it to the cup finals for 3 different teamsabout to happen again

  4. I don't think Lecaviler ever makes the HoF. He was a pretty good Center for a number of years, BUT I think Marty St. Louis is actually more deserving of the HoF. He had a longer career and St. Louis played on more than one competitive team and did some damage in the playoffs.

I actually think the Contract buyout and his lackluster play in Philly that hurts his chances, though you'd think a big body like Lecaviler would thrive with the Broad Street Bullies.

  5. Still, after 2 cups, I'm still mad about 2016. I reeeeeeeeallly thought that was our year. That 2-1 G7 loss sucked

  6. Halpern let my pops drink out of the cup on the beach during his day with the Cup on Saturday. Stand up guy that Jeff Halpern

  7. The one thing I was confused about is not remembering who was their goaltender in 2014 playoffs. If I recall correctly, their number one was Ben Bishop at the time, but he was injured for the start of the playoffs, and his replacement was absurdly weak in net. I know now that it wasn't Vasilevskiy, but I wondered for a while on that one. Heck, I'm a Habs fan and I never thought we were gonna pass Tampa that year!

  8. Until seeing his numbers on this chart, I never fully appreciated how good Brad Richards was back in the day.

  9. I feel like the 2018 series against the Caps is actually where the narrative began to shift towards them being chokers; I saw some people talking about the way they lost that series (Not scoring a goal in nearly eight periods of play, Stamkos and Kucherov barely getting any shot attempts off in game seven, Hedman being made to look like an idiot at both ends multiple times) and drawing lines back to similar trends in 2016 and '15.

Granted, I've hung around in shitposting circles a lot, but it was definitely a point of contention before 2019 seemingly solidified both the overall narrative and a number of those trends (like Stamkos, Kucherov and a seemingly ascendant Brayden Point combining for more suspensions than points in the first three games, Hedman's awful gaffe on the Savard goal, and the team getting outscored 8-2 across games 2 and 3; there was also the new narrative of Jon Cooper being too stubborn, especially his insistence on putting fourth liners against Panarin, which led to the series-winner being scored on a delayed penalty).

Of course, now the narrative has shifted again, mostly toward them being villains. (Ironic, I was saying the earlier shortfalls were karma back around the time of the Caps series, but for different reasons than all the people hating on them now)

  10. Kucherov numbers are ridiculous. In 80s he could probably get 200 points. In playoffs he recorded 30+ points in back 2 back seasons. Only Gretzky and Lemieux did it aswell. And still people don't talk about him enough. His passing abilities are unreal. Right now only McDavid should be considered better than Kuch. Who knows where he will end up in all-time rankings when he retires.

  11. Hey THG, did you see the latest tiktok from the Official Coyotes Page? It’s the mascot washing a kachina jersey and dumping “bleach” into it… this likely means they’re dropping a new white kachina jersey, what are your thoughts? Would that be a must-have in the collection?

  12. Thank you for the recap. And thank you for leaving out 1992-1999, those first 10 years were brutal but the tickets and beer were cheap! There should really be an asterisk next to the 2009-2010 season. That is when Tampa was purchased by Jeff Vinik. It's amazing what a great owner can do for a team. Sure he hired good people and the team made some wise draft decisions but Vinik changed the hockey culture in Tampa. He was the game changer for Tampa and "back-2-back" Stanley Cups would never have happened without him. Thank you Mr. Vinik and GO BOLTS!

  13. When you said Feast or Famine I was like… Feaster?
    Good ol' Jay Feaster famine

  14. I only hate Tampa because im jealous of how good they are lol

  15. I'm frustrated with your coverage of the 2014-2015 season where they lost to the blackhawks, you did not mention that the Blackhawks were $7 million over the cap that year which comes up as a very big point for the 2020-2021 season where the lightning were 18 million over the cap. The lightning were the only ones to vote to close that loophole after their devastating loss to the Blackhawks. And now everyone's complaining and saying that there should be an asterisk on the last two seasons. I call bullshit.

  16. the beautiful thing about tampa is that they still have a window of 3-5 years to compete for a stanley cup. they have their major pieces under contract for a good while yet. and because they have been successful, and are a great organization, they can attract pieces from outside that'll come and play for below market labor costs. gm brisebois learned from a winner in yzerman, and JBB has proved he can make his own moves to help make the team better. finally, jeff vinik imo is one of the best if not the best owner in the nhl.

  17. Buffalo Sabres Playoff History 1993-2007: Holy Shit We Could've Won The Cup 4 Or 5 Times.
Buffalo Sabres Playoff History 2012-Present: Go Bills.

  18. I think you reduced the most important part to a blurb at the end they have been learning to be winners and developing an organization since yserman

  19. Thanks Shannon! You captured the Bolts ups and down perfectly. And yes that period after St. Louis was traded was a trying time for fans. That one stung even all the way up to his jersey retirement. I'll never forget our first playoff berth in 96 against Philly. 11 year old Brian had no idea about playoff hockey at the time. Was unforgettable. Go bolts!

  20. Great video as always, but i think it would be fair to mention leading scorer for season/playoff separately if that is the case, because, regular season is important as far as to get you in the playoff – which is the most important games are to be played

  21. You mentioned a controversy in the 2003-04 Cup Final against Calgary but didn't say what it was. What was the controversy?
