I don’t think I agree with Larry that Roy is *exactly* what this team needs, but he could be exactly what Laf needs… A fellow Kay-bec-kwah who has been getting the most out of young players for several years now. Maybe that’s enough.

Still think it’s weird and telling that reporting has Drury checking in on Roy as early as December 2022. Where there’s smoke…

Here, here Brooksy. I think this would be a home run

Heeeelllll no. We really think the lunatic who ran a super talented Avs roster into the ground, threw a temper tantrum cuz he thought they traded his “best defenseman” *Nick Holden*, and quit on the eve of training camp due to a difference in team philosophy (which turned into Sakic’s vision making them one of the best teams in the league and winning them a Cup) is the answer??
Just hire Knoblauch already and stay away from these obvious tire fires.

Roy’s last two years in Colorado were disasters. It’s very different to coach kids in the QMJHL vs adults in the NHL.
I know this sub has been iffy on Laviolette from the beginning but he’s my number 1 choice if we want to get straight back to playoff race/cup contending.
Knoblauch would be my choice if we’re cool to sit back for a couple more years while Laf/Kakko develop.
Roy would be my preference over Hynes but idk about anyone else.

I heard someone say Patrick Roy should be the coach becuase of his success in the QMJHL.
You know who else had success their? Gallant.
Most NHL coaches have had success in the amateur leagues first.
Also, if the job of the NHL coaches esp in NY is that we need to « develop » Kakko and Laffy … then why would Drury trade for Tarasenko and Kane? Because it wasn’t the job to give these guys top 6 minutes. It was the job of the coach to win games.

I’m very confused on Roy. If my memory serves me right, he was a terrible coach in Colorado for his short tenure and the team just progressively got worse under him each year. He was always used as an example of how a great player doesn’t always make a great coach.
But then you look at his QMJHL record and it’s pretty fucking good, and his team just won the finals. Is Roy a good coach?

I do think Larry makes a good point in that it’s generally a soft spoken bunch and a fiery HC who can get them going would make a lot of sense.

I’d take him over lavy and definitely hynes lol

Roy is an egomaniac whose tenure in Colorado was a disaster. On what planet is he « exactly what the Rangers need »?
Patrick Roy dealing with the NY media would *not* go well.

No denying that Roy’s tenure in CO ended badly, but it is very strange that he had the title of HC and VP of Hockey Operations at the same time. It seems like something you would do if you specifically wanted there to be friction between the coach and GM.
Roy wouldn’t have been on my original list, but on a short list with Laviolette and Hynes I would take Roy’s passion and perceived lack of favoring veterans over the other two guys.
We have given out so many NMCs our veteran group is far too comfortable.
