I haven’t read the article, but does the author do a deep dive on how it would have helped our chances if we had scored more goals than the other team?

I knew the criticism would be pretty dismissive. That’s fine. I’ll engage with it a little more seriously for the sake of conversation.
You should try to win championships when you get the chance is hardly a groundbreaking analysis, granted.
I take Baker’s point that it’s frustrating that the teams ahead of us looked beatable.
More constructively, I’d like to hear what the proposed fix is. I didn’t see a lack of effort from the players, despite the charge of a lack of killer instinct on the micro and macro levels.
I think the implicit criticism is that we should have made a move at the trade deadline (which Baker and many others were ambivalent about at the time). But Burakovsky’s reinjury is easy to forget in that calculus. And what would the cost have been to make a difference-making move?
I get the broad point that sometimes you have to take your opportunities as they come, despite the best laid long term plans. But I have a hard time saying this year was anything but a big step forward from year 1. As with many teams before, they will learn from this playoff experience and be better prepared next time. I am confident about that.

I don’t think we would’ve had a chance against Vegas this year. If Burky were healthy it might have been a competitive series. But they dramatically outplayed us in the late throws of the regular season.
