1. You make the trade b/c Pasta is 1 dimensional and Tkachuk is EXACTLY what the Bruins have lacked for years – tough, long, energetic, courageous physical guys in your top 6. Tkachuk is the picture you see when you define the prototype playoff hockey player. Bruins have been hard headed in never admitting they’re not built for the playoffs against physical teams, because that’s never been their explicit goal, because you have to take risks and be in a rebuild for a couple of years. That’s the problem. Been Sweeney’s issue since day 1. Getting smaller wingers but not playoff hockey types has been this teams habitual scourge. Another reason why the choke last year was an absolutely murderous drop of the ball and once in a lifetime opportunity missed. Instead of kicking it up several notches like Florida, you have guys like Lindholm disappearing like Houdini and Monty open to asking your grandmother what the lines should be.

  2. Guys be real- Boston, Toronto, and Carolina didn’t just stop scoring because they choked. Florida obviously doing something right systematically to disrupt

  3. Put your money on Vegas. They have the most Canadian born players on their playoff roster. At a quick glance, it looks like the 2 teams with the most Canadians on their playoff rosters are in the finals. The Bruins had the fewest Canadians on the roster of all the playoff teams and they got dumped in the first round. On the other hand 3 of the Bruins top 4 points producers in the playoffs were Canadian.

Gee, I wonder where the Bruins should look to to get players? Continue mining US college players or maybe look at the Canadian junior leagues?

By the way, I was screaming for the Bruins to grab Tkachuk no matter what it took. I hadn't considered trading Pasta at the time though.

  4. If we want maximum value for Ullmark, we should be talking him up. Ullmark did give us the best regular season in NHL history. Great podcast!

  5. You won't sign Bertuzzi. It's not happening. He will get an offer somewhere else that Boston can't match. You're better off looking at trading, say….Hall and Ullmark for draft capital or prospects. The prospects Boston has right now are not NHL ready, and to be honest, they're not going to carry you to a cup. But Neely, Sweeney, and the Jacobs will be hard-headed and settle for a team that does well in the regular season but gets bounced in the 1st round instead of biting the bullet and rebuilding with the pieces they have. They've been doing this for the past 8 years, and it's not working. As for Pasta, you're screwed. He's only good for scoring goals. This team needs players like Tkachuk, tough, gritty, and smart players. Not flashy superstars like Pastrnak, which are turnover machines. Look at the 2011 team. They had the players that could score, but they could also be physical when they needed to be. This team seems like it doesn't want to play physical, and instead, they want to be cute with the puck and try to skate past people which works great during the regular season but fails miserably in the playoffs.

  6. Absolutely make the trade . Tkachuk is a difference maker and made for the playoffs . Pasta scores but disappears in spurts . He scores but how many are multiple goal games ? I take Tkachuk every time
