As long they have PDB as coach they will be competitive. The issue will be that PDB can't figure out how to win championship games.
Do you know what it would take to get rid of benn? Probably taking on other crappy contracts or eating a ton of cap to for 4 years to buy him out. He only has 2 years on his contract. Besides would you do that when he had a major bounce back this season. Probably his best since 2015-16. He was 2nd on the team in scoring and he’s very good on that line w Wyatt Johnston. He screwed up big time in game 3 and wasn’t a factor in game 6 but no one was and he did only play 10 minutes in that one so not realistic to put all this blame on him for that specific game. The cross check is a huge mistake at the worst time. It all but killed their chances in the series. I’m very pissed at him for that but you can’t discredit the great season he had. I don’t think smart teams get rid of a guy for a screw up in one game on an otherwise great season. Even if it is in a massive game for the series. If they need to trade/buyout anyone it’s suter. That guy made multiple mistakes and was getting blown past all season. At 38 he should not be logging 1st pair minutes. He can’t keep up w the speed. He needs to go or get less minutes. Other than that their future does look very bright w all the elite young low cost talent coming into the roster. Because of that it makes benn and seguins contracts manageable.
