Look at Thachuk salary and tell me Matthews or Nylander can demand significantly more. Nylander will want a raise, how do you possibly pay him close to 9.5? Even Austin, sure he is a center, but would you trade AM for Thachuk straight up? Answer is likely yes, so how can he demand some stupid number.
Nylander is gonna come in and ask for 9m+ I have no idea how you even consder it.
Matthews, rumour is 13-15. I would maybe consider 13×8 but that anything higher, I have no idea how you pay the rest of the team.

There’s to many hockey fans these days that base things around what works for them on EA sports. On video games the intensity never changes at the start of the playoffs. Guys aren’t afraid to get hit in the corners, and bail on loose pucks, or turn them over out of fear. Defensemen don’t start hearing footsteps after taking 3-4 solid hits in a series. In video games skilled forwards don’t refuse to leave the perimeter out of fear of getting their noses dirty the way the Leafs core 4 have proven repeatedly that they are going to be. Of course the core 4 need to be split up. However, everywhere you go you have fanboys making excuses for why splitting up these guys will automatically mean no playoffs, and a full on rebuild. Maybe that’s true, maybe not, but who cares? If it takes no playoffs for a year, or two to build a team capable of making a quality run at a cup, then so be it. When a team hasn’t won a cup since 67, and hasn’t even been to a Conference Final since 94, then just making the playoffs can no longer be the goal. Being successful once you’re there needs to become the number 1 priority. If the leafs go through this summer retooling around the same core players for next year, then to me the organization will have proven at that point that all they really care about is hosting 3 or 4 home playoff games. You can’t just sit there being satisfied every season for making the playoffs, or winning a single round, but MLSE seems to be.

I agree that Matthews seems to lack grit but not every player on a team needs to be that sort of player. They've put some tough players like O'Reilly and Acciari, so why can't they gel next year? I don't like the idea of scrapping what is a very good team rather than adding to it with players like Matthew Knies.
So this chud gets a make a wish participation ribbon at an allstar game where his peers basically pitied him enough to allow goals and now he's doing cringe clickbait.
