Bro’s only success is coaching a team that has one of the best defensive players in hockey history and then a stacked Canada olympic team that a snot rag would have won gold with
He was dogshit with the Leafs already, a young team that was looking to grow with their young talent. The only time they made the playoffs with them in it, the interesting stat to watch was which fourth line forward would get as much ice time or more than guys like Matthews.
Top off the emotional abusive nature and his fragile ego, there’s just no reason to go to him.
But why?!!! Why should you build a solid young roster that needs to be coached and coached encouraged, have several solid candidates out there who have experience winning with young teams (Gallant, Roy, Laviolette, Vincent, etc,) know Babcock reputation around the league and what happened in Toronto, manage a team that already has a hard time getting and retaining talent to play here and then go out and want to hire THAT?!!
Hell if it’s the ownership being cheap, promote Vincent or whoever is hiring Cleveland and call it a day. We don’t need a toxic abusive coach who has a reputation of teams quitting on him in the locker room. I get Larsen was too soft and we lost some of the culture we had but I can’t imagine what would possess the front office to think this is a good idea.
We might get a couple decent seasons out of this, but free agents aren’t going to want to sign here and it’s only a matter of time before our players want to walk.
Besides, you take the head case that is Elvis and pair him with that?
Please tell me this is just posturing and we’re really signing someone else.
If the players had as much say as we’re led to believe, you can’t be all that mad with the hire. We’re not the ones playing for him.

June 30th? Seems like a LONG time to wait. How cheap is ownership that they can’t buyout the last month of his contract from the leafs. The Leafs let the penguins buyout a guy they only fired a week ago before June 30th.

I’m really hoping that this is one of those good “wtf you doing Jarmo?” moments….but I just don’t see how that can be possible. You have a squad of relatively young players and then bring in a known bully as your coach. Was there really nobody else? Besides Q, who else out there would’ve been worse than Babcock? I can’t think of one. Damn it’s hard to be a Jackets fan right now.
Hopefully, Jarmo sees all of the absolute hatred towards Babcock from the fanbase and hires anyone else except Q
I have to admit, other than knowing he’s a recycled coach with a decent resume, I did not know much about him. I did not follow the Leafs firing. After reading a few articles, I don’t want this guy. We have a young, developing team. This guy is the opposite of what we need. Can anybody make a case for him being a good fit?
If these rumors are true, the only silver lining I can think of here is comparing Babcock to Torts. Torts previous job with the Canucks went down in flames and he went on to be our best coach to date. I’m hoping Babcock will be the same way. That being said, I don’t like this hire

Man – I remember hating the Tortorella hire, and in hind sight he was exactly what the organization needed at the time. So I’m willing to give this a shot – but hard pill to swallow.
Wonder what the hell he said in the interview…and what kind of contract he’s signing. It’s got to be about money, he’s got to be signing cheap…
