Mike Babcock is a terrible, terrible person. He prevented Modano from reaching 1500 games by using him as a healthy scratch and is a known bully.

I genuinely feel bad for CBJ players and, by extension, their fans. The only reason to hire Babcock is if you care more about a record than the actual PEOPLE that work and play for you.

  2. ThrowAwayCanadaFin22

The Modano and Marner stories tell me all I need to know about this guy. And those are just some of the stories we know. Imagine all the shit we don’t know.

He got one championship out of a Red Wings team that had one of the all time greatest rosters. I could have coached that group and won a cup.

  3. Reallyme77

Laine out of the frying pan and into the fire.

  4. Shliggie

Wow, CBJ players getting absolutely screwed. Hopefully they’ll be at least somewhat prepared for the abuse they’ll be going through for now on.

  5. Constant-Squirrel555

What an absolute prick, don’t get how Jarmo is willing to give him a job considering how petty he can be.

The jackets young guys are gon be bullied by this asshole

  6. Rimmatimtim22

How the fuck is this guy gunna still be allowed in the league. He’s a fucking walking PR nightmare.

  7. bubs613

Torts to Larson and now Babcock.

Wow somebody upstairs isn’t paying attention or is obtuse

  8. ResponsibleYoung4711

Curious to see if he’s actually learnt anything from his time away from the game. If not, this could be a complete dumpster fire in Columbus.

  9. BluejayExternal7842

What better way to bring a young team together than to pit them all against each other in order to satisfy one’s own ego? This’ll be great.

  10. oldmanhockeylife

It’s amazing to me that these clubs keep recycling the same « good old boys » rather than taking a chance on guys coaching the successful colleges, AHL, ECHL or abroad. Really ridiculous.

    Also Babcock is a tool.

  11. stellahella1

I thought he ‘retired’ from coaching after he wasn’t welcomed back to his uni coaching job. What a jerk

  12. artwarrior

Yeah but who’s the hardest worker on the roster ? 🙂

  13. legendary_sponge

Not playing Spezza when it was first game in Toronto with the Leafs against the Senators (or something like that) when Spezza had his family at the game is all time loser move

  14. Disastrous-Group4521

I’m calling Babcock coming off the books in T.O as « Keefe firing day ».

    Here’s hoping

  15. JJ2o2o

I never thought anyone would pass Mike Keenan on my « not even if hell freezes over » list but here we are.

  16. sucker8219

Why? You could get a totally new coach. It’s mind blowing how small the circles are in nhl. 🤦

  17. Invictus23_

    Say it with me fellas,

    **FUCK MIKE BABCOCK**

  18. ThadTheImpalzord

Johnny Hockey going from Sutter to Babcock lol. Ohh poor guy can’t get away from the old guard coaches

  19. scal23

Man, being an NHL head coach must be the most difficult job imaginable, considering there’s apparently only like 38 guys alive that can do it.

  20. DMmeyourinbox

Johnny hockey has to be hating this.

  21. tswart92

Remember when Johnny Hockey turned down more money from a team that made the playoffs for this?

  22. LunarMoon2001

A front office desperate for a name to market not a name to win.

Don’t with this team for good.

  23. splendid_ssbm

This will surely solve Columbus’ longstanding problem of not being seen as a desirable place to sign

  24. PremierVik

Wings fan, those poor bastards. Went into the CBJ sub and there are more than a few excited for this. Not a majority but man they’re in for a rude awakening. Not meaning to be offensive to cbj fans but when The Prick was here we only won a single cup. With a team he didn’t build stacked with HoFer’s and the greatest D man and we continuously were bounced yearly in the playoffs. Winning in CBJ with less talent and Buttfuck’s obsession with vets and punishing young players. I don’t see him even being .500 let alone playoffs there.

  25. DaniCapsFan

How many guys in the league with modified NTCs are gonna put Columbus on their « no fucking way » list at the beginning of the season?

  26. AlanLGuy

This screams “Jarmo knows this is the last coach he’s going to be able to hire”. For him to land on Babcock over Pascal Vincent or Roy or a number of other available coaches, he must be feeling the pressure for the Jackets to have a quick turn around.

I hope he’s on a short leash with the front office… but given what I said above… I doubt he will be.

  27. mysmmx

How many and who asks for a ticket out of Columbus! I give it three games in before some trouble hits in that room. Edit: spelling

  28. canuck47

« If you think there’s no pain coming, there’s pain coming,”

  29. Stanski11

He’s top 2 for guys I don’t want to work for in that league. Rip cbj having motivated and excited young guys

  30. The_G_89

Poor Columbus. Got robbed of a 2023 1st OA, and now this. Y’all don’t deserve this at all Blue Jacket Fans

  31. Judge_Tredd

I don’t wish this on any team. Not even Carolina.

  32. Popular-Drama9489

If you’re looking for a coach like Babcock, you’ll need someone with a knack for wearing a suit on the bench and an exceptional ability to draw up intricate plays on the whiteboard. Plus, a bonus skill would be having a stern gaze that can make players instantly feel like they’re in trouble even if they did nothing wrong. Good luck finding that unique blend of discipline and intimidation! 😉

  33. SiidChawsby

Jackets fans, how we feeling about this?

  34. Rupdy71

Babcock is a prick, CBJ makes the playoffs inside 2 seasons.

  35. TexasYankee212

How could they have made him a head coach knowing the negatives and bullying he does with players? Don’t be surprised that the players that would be free would be fleeing to other teams.

  36. Affectionate-Depth66

Hope “Johnny Hockey” has a bad time. Spineless weasel.

  37. Optimus_RE

How is Mike Babcock even in NHL circles anymore? Good old boys club

  38. vaporsilver

So I was pretty against this but then I kept hearing about how Jarmo kept the players in the loop. They actually had a big part in this search from my understanding. Babcock also apparently had several long conversations with our top players; Laine the most I believe.

If the players green lit this then I think there’s a good chance he won’t be his old self. I’m sure it’s an extra short leash too.

Anyways, I’m willing to give it a shot and see what happens. The dude can win so if that’s what they’re going for then they found it.

  39. Babcock was a dick to depth players and treated stars well, which isn’t a good thing, but it’s not like he was ever just an asshole to everyone. An asshole, nevertheless.

But it seems he is a bit more grounded now and not so stuck up in his own ass. We’ll see.

Gaudreau: « I’ve got to get away from Gary Sutter. He’s too hard to play for ».

CBJ: « Hold my beer and watch this ».
