Source: The guy on this sub who was insisting Gallant would still be coaching the team in the fall even after Gallant got fired.

  2. Signal_Wall_8445

I wanted Gallant gone, but I don’t see how Laviolette or Hynes are an upgrade.

It sucks that in hard salary cap league that undercuts the revenue advantage a team like the Rangers has, instead of throwing extra resources towards being innovative at things that aren’t capped like coaching, scouting and analytics they seem to play it safe.

Maybe they’ll just go with the guy who has the best penmanship, again.

    > Perhaps Roy’s memorable exit from the Avs, in which he cited an unaligned vision with the front office, has made NHL teams wary of the 57-year-old. Roy doubled as vice president of hockey operations at the time because he wanted to have input in bigger decisions, which evidently didn’t end well.

So Drury looking for a yes man. That’s just great.

Welp, it’s official. No one has any idea what the Rangers are planning to do. All we’ve read is baseless speculation, it seems.

The fact that no ones been hired yet is….concerning? Depending how you look at it.

Are they, in fact, waiting to see if Q gets re-instated by the league after the cup final? Contrary to Larry’s reporting? It would make sense, considering he’s been beating the Roy drum for a few weeks now. Would be pretty awful if that is the case, but who the fuck knows.

If Laviolette or Hynes was the guy, I feel like we’d have gotten the NYR 11am press drop by now.

We are really gonna go with hynes or lav? What in the actual fuck? If this is the hire and we have a big fall next season, drury should be fired. How in the fuck are we only looking at the 2 worst options.

These are downgrades or lateral moves at best

  7. Rick91981

Arthur Staple via The Athletic seems to agree.

    >It’s been a month since the Rangers and Gerard Gallant agreed to part company. We’re hearing that it may be down to two for the next Rangers coach: Peter Laviolette, late of the Capitals, or John Hynes, late of the Predators.

    >If those names do not inspire excitement in this next phase of Chris Drury’s stewardship, you’re probably not alone. That this search has taken as long as it has does not scream that Drury and the Rangers had a grand plan in place when Gallant departed. The GM and his first coaching hire did not see eye to eye by the end of that Game 7 loss to the Devils, which was about as uninspiring a performance as could have come from this group of players and certainly didn’t help Gallant’s case to return for another year.

    >And still there’s a chance this search could continue. League sources said last week that it was highly unlikely the Rangers would talk to Patrick Roy, who then led his Quebec Remparts to a Memorial Cup on Sunday. If that makes Drury reconsider, then we’re not nearing the end — though if the GM and Roy, who played together and won a Stanley Cup with the Avalanche 22 years ago, were a good fit, then Roy likely would have gotten a sit-down two years ago. He didn’t and he’s not likely to now.

At this point it’d be fun to see the Rangers make some hire out of left field that nobody was talking about.

  9. Ill_Sympathy948

What a disaster of an organization. No imagination, no creativity, no focus.

Every day I’m mad that my dad raised me to like this embarrassing team.

  10. PeteyG89

Just hire Lav and be done with it..not great but if its Hynes were defcon 3

  11. Crimson3312

Guys, it’s official, I’m going to be the new coach. This is all just so reporters can make their deadlines.

  12. NotFoley

I was thinking to myself the other day, is there a single trade/signing that Drury objectively won?

  13. insert-originality

I now select myself as candidate for Rangers head coach. I have a pretty good resume on Franchise Hockey Manager.

  14. robbiejandro

Just give Knoblauch a shot as head, and put Vally on the bench as an assistant.

  15. vette322

Rangers should hire Messier now as HC, hire Knoblauch as Assistant HC, get another experienced AC, and let Mess handle the player, motivation, accountability side, and let Knoblauch do the Xs/Os. Beats Bad Wig Laviolette or Hynes IMO.

  16. padds98

What are they waiting for then? I think Drury really wants Quenneville

  17. the_mair

Honestly at this point just not Hynes

  18. MasterClass86

The media makes stuff up out of thin air. When it’s right, you get applause. When it’s wrong, no one bothers to call it out, so who cares.

  19. Krispyford

Do we know what kind of relationship Drury and Roy had in Colorado? They played together for 4 years when Drury first got into the NHL. I wonder if there’s a personal reason for not even bringing him in to talk.

  20. JukemanJenkins

I heard Colton Orr will be announced as the new head coach. Ryan Hollweg will be his assistant.

  21. Spare_Entrance_9389

    Canucks could use another coach

  22. jay_mald

When is the news finally gonna drop that someone is hired? IDGAF WHO ISNT GONNA BE THE COACH

  23. martintinnnn

I wouldn’t even fall off my chair if they announce Sutter will be named the next coach! One bad decision after another in the NHL this year.
