1. Any chance the Bruins will not choke for the umpteenth time again? The franchise is softer than butter!

  2. Let’s get the easy one out of the way first, Dmitry Orlov

    The Bruins biggest problems:

Lack of Cap Space, no 1c or 2c, Crap Farm System, No Draft Capital, Only 7 forwards signed for the 2023-24 season

The Bruins, despite probably needing an upgrade like Orlov, simply have too many other glaring priorities to invest in him as a UFA thanks to Don Sweeney’s ineptitude

Orlov is also probably the best UFA d-man on the market and he’s going to look to cash-in one more time

The Bruins simply have other needs that are far more pressing and Orlov has far more reasons to move on than to come back to Boston for short money

The Bruins should have traded for or signed an Orlov type two years ago

Instead, Sweeney traded a lot of assets to bring in a regular-season only player who was soft before he got here & soft while he’s been here, Hampus Lindholm

If anyone has seen Lindholm’s playoff performances, they know what his issues are and that they're not likely to improve anytime soon

As for Tyler Bertuzzi, the Bruins have to ask themselves should they even be investing in high priced UFAs anymore let alone a Wing?

With no 1c or 2c signed, no 1c or 2C anywhere to be found in their putrid farm system, no Cap Space to sign Top 6 centers, no 1st round pick until 2025 and no 2nd round pick until 2026…..

Center is far more important of a position than Wing in the NHL, the Bruins just invested a mountain of cash to retain another wing, David Pastrnak, while also having nothing of significance at center in their crap prospect pipeline either

The Bruins also only have $6M in Cap Space which won’t be enough to even re-sign Swayman and Frederic, let alone anyone else and that’s not even getting into the fact they only have 7 forwards signed for next season right now too

If Sweeney moves Hall or Ullmark in an attempt to re-sign Bertuzzi that won’t solve their salary cap issues and it won’t fix their short and long term 1c and 2c problems either

Yes, if Bergeron comes back for $2M and they’re able to move and or buyout some combination of Hall, Ullmark, Forbort and or Reilly they may be able re-sign Bertuzzi, fill out the forward group with PVD players in the bottom 6 and take one more swing at the fences with 37

The question one has to ask is though, why do this?

The 2011 core’s run is over. Proof?

They’ve been going backwards in the playoffs these past 4 years, they have the NHL’s worst draft capital situation, they have the NHL’s worst salary cap situation and they have one of the NHL’s worst Farm Systems that does not house a future 1c, 2c, top 6 LW or top 4 RHD

-7 of 8 years since 2015 Sweeney's Bruins failed to win more than one playoff round (87% of the time)

4 of the past 8 years since 2015 Sweeney's Bruins have either failed to win a single playoff round (17,22,23) or they DNQd (2016) (50% of the time)

The past two regular seasons have ended in 100+ point efforts including the Bruins setting the NHL’s regular season and points records this past year

And the past two post seasons have also both ended in 1st round, Game 7, chokes

    NHL’s worst Cap Space situation

    NHL’s worst Draft Capital situation

One of the NHL’s worst Farm Systems

No 1c or 2c signed to the big club for 23-24

No 1c or 2c anywhere to be found in their putrid farm system

Only 7 forwards signed for the 23-24 season

Only won more than one playoff round ONCE in 8 years since 2015

Last 4 post seasons: 2nd round loss to TB, 2nd round loss to an inferior NYI team, 1st round loss to CAR, 1st round choke to FLA

Does anything of this scream it’s time to invest in more high priced UFAs like Tyler Bertuzzi, Dmitri Orlov or anyone else others that matter?

    OR

Does all of this scream that the Bruins should pass on Orlov, Bertuzzi and every other high priced UFA, stop pissing away their future chasing early round playoff exits and actually try to start getting back the three things they lack, that every NHL teams needs to build a new core:

Draft Capital: Preferably 1st and 2nd round picks

Good Prospect Pool: Need the draft picks or have to trade players for that

Salary Cap: Can’t sign more high priced UFAs if you’re going to fix the Cap Problems

Don’t worry Bruins homers. Sweeney isn’t going for any re-build. So expect more pissing away of the future and early round playoff exits

Proof that future is coming unless they actually try to change things and start building a new core soon?

You have seen the last 8 years of Don Sweeney running the team as GM and where they are at organizationally today right?

No winning in the playoffs, crap farm system, no draft capital, no cap space, no future 1c or 2c

If you expect bringing back 38 year old Bergeron and re-signing Bertuzzi is going to lead to any long playoff runs, you're nuts.

Proof? Again just look at the past 8 years and more importantly, the last 4 seasons. The Bruins are going backwards in the post season people

The last 4 regular seasons have ended in a worse playoff loss than the previous post season

The Bruins have used up all of their Cap Space and organizational assets people. And they've won nothing in the process along the way.

Do you really want to keep doing this or do some of you actually want a new core that might actually win something again someday?

Choose your own adventure I guess but this seems like an easy answer

Hard pass on Orlov, Bertuzzi and signing any other high priced UFAs this off-season

  3. Trade Orlov he wants to go back to Washington. Do try to prioritize Bertuzzi

  4. They'll trade Ullmark and grizzy or Carlo to Oliers for RNH. Center problem solved.
