Thank you! Come again!
With us being much better this should become a point of pride for us. Seeing guys we brought up through the org get great contracts with second teams should be something the team and us fans becomes proud of.
I’ll take it for someone we were going to lose in free agency for nothing.
Good luck to Sevo on Columbus. I always liked him and he stuck with us through some dark years
I hate to see him stay in the division, but this is some excellent asset management by Fitz. You got to keep the guy for the playoff run, and still managed to turn a pending UFA into a 3rd.
Funny enough, that’s the pick that Columbus acquired from Seattle for Devil-killer Oliver Bjorkstrand.
3rd Round Pick aka Ross Colton

This is a W. It’s basically a free pick. This pick should be better than our own third round pick which we sent for Marino.
Sad to see him go. He got a lot of cheers and jeers through the years, but now all I’ve got are tears.
Good luck Sevo and good on him for getting his deserved pay day. Wish he could stay but understand that we can’t be paying Dougie, Marino, and Severson to be our RDs.
Damn. I knew it was coming, but it still hurts. Thanks for your years here, Sevo. You were unjustly hated around here by many, but my faith in you never wavered.
I know sign and trades are not common in the NHL. I think what has been said here is spot on. He did right by Sevo so they he could get an extra year in his deal. He also did right by the team to get a 3rd rounder for a player her was going to most likely lose for nothing or at the very least a low round pick for his signing rights.
I don’t know if this matters with the current players or even with players around the league but if the Devils have or get a reputation that they take care of their players might help with FAs down the road??? Assuming the money is close of course. Lol
Best of luck to Sevo. CBJ is a lot better on paper but it sucks for Sevo that he spent a ton of years on our worst teams then just as we’re rounding into a contender he goes to the worst team in the east in 22-23.
He’ll have $50 mil to quell those worries.
We originally traded our 3rd rounder to Pittsburgh in the Marino/Ty Smith swap. This gets us back the 3rd rounder and 10 spots higher at 80 overall instead of 90 overall!
Extremely common, ubiquitous Fitz W
Sucks to see but it was bound to happen, can we at least keep papa sevo?
As much as I loved Sevo, Fitz did right by the devils and Sevo here and its another Fitz W.
Also shows the league that coming to the devils and having pending FAs be taken care of even if they dont sign with the team, as well as player development, are priorities at the organizational level and should attract more players.
Essentially a free pick and we have opened up a lot of negotiating cap space for meier/bratt
He goes from my first team to my hometown team. That works out for me 😂 hope he continues to do well.
woah! shame severson had to slog through so many rough years and now as soon as we’re getting good time runs out. this is an excellent bit of business from the devils, getting a third for a guy who you weren’t gonna re-sign, helping him get a big deal and the bow on top is it’s from a division rival who are now stuck with a big boy contract with huge term. Severson is much better than a lot give him credit for and he will be missed from the Devils blueline, don’t get that twisted. But giving a guy like Sevo an 8×6.25 would not be a good move for a team looking to keep their new contention window open for as long as possible. And it helps tremendously that we have one of, if not the best RHD prospect in the world to soften the blow
Sad to see Seves go, but we knew this was inevitable with the new guys that are starting to come up. He really improved as the years went on and made a lot fewer mistakes in the last couple years and definitely earned his long term deal. Good luck to him and thank you for the years of service, Damon!
Sad to see him go. Wish he would’ve got sent to the west, and to a better team. But glad he’s getting the pay day he deserves
