  1. Good luck Severson, nice player… not my favorite Dman but was great for NJ during some lean years. He made mistakes, he is cashing in way over market value for that contract but he was a loyal soldier. Good luck and thanks Fitz for the 3rd round pick!!!!!

  2. As a Jackets fan, I hate the length, but the 6.25 per isn't too bad. This move either puts Adam Boqvist on the market or the Jackets plan on keeping Jirchek in the AHL another year. I don't think Jarmo is done making moves, but I think he is done making big moves. And the prices wasn't too bad. It wasn't even their 3rd round pick. It was the pick they got in the Oliver Bjorkstrand with Seattle last summer.

  3. absolute brutal, 8 years, 6.25 million for a 29 year old 3rd pairing d man

  4. canucks are wanna be window shoppers for the next 3 years. all fans can do is watch well run teams get better while vancouver treads water.

  5. I like severson but i cant think of a worse spot for him- lol! He is what he is- a 2nd/3rd pairing dman who could hold down pp1 on a bad team but more likely falls into the pp2 role. They just dont need that. Werenski is legit- if hes your only offensive dman your in good shape. He is NOT however the only offensive dman they have. They hace boqvist who is cery one dimensional and bean who is a bit more invested in two way play but really shines as an offensive facillitator. Then they have a guy in Blanken burg who jas thrived in that role with minimal hype. For those countong thats one offensive powergouse with 3 very very solid backup options.

BUT it doesnt even end there! I think Jiricek represents a true top pairing dman who can thrive offensively while playing important edefensive minutes as well and realistically werenski amd him are more than capable of handling your offensive load for years to come. Then they still have mateychuk who is a pure rover who is sort of reinventing what an offensive dman looks like out there who will NEED an offensive role to have any real value. Shoutout to svozil who is an underrated offensive talent himself albeit with likely less upside than the rest.

In the short and long term they need guys to insulate all this offensive talent. Instead they get sevwrson whose mostly capable defensively but earns his paycheck by adding 30 odd points from the backend each year. On most teams qith one or two legitimate pp threats thatd be huge but on CLB its completely redundant already amd will be even more redindant by the time their young guys hit their stride. Your going to overpay a guy for his offensive prowess and then give him then skate him on pp2 half the time or less? Why?? Hes not a train wreck defensively butbhes no show pony either- his value is in the extra offensive minutes he can provide…. that they simply dont need.

I love severson and i hope he succeeds but i sort of doubt it. He was a nice surprise in fantasy but i think hes safe to drop today outside of the dewpest of leagues. Maybe (MAYBE) they gove him the reigns to pp2 for a year or even two while the youth develops (but looking at their decelopment so far im guessing theyre here sooner rather than later)- but even in that role hell be fjghting off three very capable contenders (two of them with sognificant hype still!) just to get that pp2 spot and the 30 ofd points that goea along with it. After that itll be 20 points or less as the pp dream gets smaller and smaller in the rearview. Hes an underrated player but this is a bad fit for team and player. I cant help but think theyd be much better served with a shutdown guy or two.

If you own severaon in fantasy shop him for whatever return you can get. He might (MIGHT) repeat last seasons totals (and even thats sort of a bad bet with columbus implodimg offensively this year) and the graph goes straight down after that…

  6. Not prone to a mistake, prone to a big mistake — that loses you a game most of the time.

  7. mtl 5th overall and anderson for 3rd overall would be big to give up but we get michkov garanteed wich is pretty big if he goes 2nd we get fantilli wich is prettty good wich i dont think will happen colombus get a ok goal scorer fast physical player big energ and the 5th overall wich coud be will smith great piece to have for their system

  8. 6.25 is way too much for where theyll use him. He desserves that on a team where hes a pp2 stalwart who sees time on pp1. That will NOT happen in cbj…

  9. If you own severson in fantasy- you shop him after that signing knowing full well he could have another 30 point aeason cause after that the arrow points straight down…

  10. As sad as it is to see such a long-term Devils veteran go right after our Cup window just opened, it was inevitable with Nemec coming up next year. He's going to take over Severson's spot as the 3rd pair RD.

  11. Little longer of a contract than id like but im excited for the season and thr move

  12. As a Devils fan, it's sad to see a good guy go. But this is a great "thank you" deal for him and despite his defensive mistakes, he's still a very strong offensive d'man who will fit well in CLB. Plus getting a 3rd instead of getting nothing at all is nothing to sneeze at.

  13. Devils had Severson on the 3rd line so for him to get 6.25 for 8yrs is great for him. Severson can make great passes and was a good Dman but when messed up it seemed to always lose us the game. Fitz wasn't going to be able to sign everyone so to get a 3rd rd pick for him was great considering more than likely he was going to be available for nothing. Devils needed to make room for Nemec who has a great chance of making the team.

  14. Stealing canucks chances for righthand Defense why didn't wait for canucks teams scooping us on righthand Defense

  15. As a devils fan, I’m happy, I didn’t want Severson anymore, needed to make room for Luke and Nemec he was a UFA anyways, 🎉this is a win/win
