  1. Trade Carlson and 4 1st Round draft picks for the next 4 years and 3 second round picks for the next 3 years for the first round pick from Chicago.

  2. Regular season records are a joke. As a Blues fan, I'm so glad our GM gave the big money to the younger talent. Being stuck with an aging roster is hell. Especially if they only brought you one cup, this isn't the Pens or Hawks.

  3. Almost got traded to habs and panthers before winning his first cup after so many years he was a forth liner, around 2016 season. he only cares about the record now 😅

  4. The Capitals whole identity is Alex Ovechkin. Once he's gone thats it. Capitals will be a basement team once again.

  5. The coaching since winning the Cup has been terrible. Same with goalkeeping. And no, Dumper is not a good goalie.

  6. I'm a leafs fan but I've been a massive Ovi fan his whole career. This team owes it to Ovi to get home the record. He was the only bright light in so many of there seasons where he'd win the rocket and the team would miss the playoffs.

This dude has given his whole career to the Caps organization when he could of went elsewhere, the Caps owe him the Gretzky record

  7. Such a terrible take. Washington has gotten significantly younger since the trade deadline. Hagelin, Irwin and Eller are gone. Three of the oldest players. Johansson is gone. They just signed 26yr old Strome to a 5 year extension and he had a career year. When that top line of Ovechkin -Strome-Wilson was healthy it was Washington's best. Ovechkin is the oldest player but still their best. Age doesn't matter when you're talking about him. Wilson isn't going anywhere. He said at the end of the season that he's going to be a Cap until he retires and the GM said the same thing. They're going to get a long term deal done before the season starts. Washington now has 4 of their top 7 D under 24 years old. NAK and Milano are 27. McMichael and Protas are full time in Washington next year both 22. Miroshnichenko is 19 and just came over. Backstrom and Oshie are going to have to move down to the 3rd line. That's just reality. With Kuznetsov and Mantha moving out, they need a whole new 2nd line but the GM said his primary focus is the top 6 this offseason. They have 8th overall and will either grab a very good prospect or flip it for a young guy in his prime. Mac has made it clear that they plan to be competitive for the next 3 seasons. That's why Jensen and TVR just got 3 year contracts. They just hired the youngest coach in the NHL and fired their cockroach of a PP coach who had been there more than a decade. Not sure what more you expect. Goaltending was great all year. The Defense is set. The top line is set. Most of the bottom 6 is set. They just need to rebuild the 2nd line and they're going to be back in the playoffs. This team had incredible injuries all year including missing Backstrom and Wilson for 4 months and missing Carlson for 3 months – and they sold a lot at the deadline only to miss the playoffs by just a few points! Now the old guys get a long summer to finally be healthy and ready for camp with the new coach.

  8. Why would any Canadian hockey fan want to see The Great One have his record broken by Ovechkin? Seriously? The guy is not shy about his adoration of Vladimir Putin while Gretzky is a Canadian icon.

  9. The Caps are an old on the decline team for the first time in how long? they haven’t finished below 1st or 2nd in 13 out of the last Ovi will retire as a Capital, and i really believe he’d take a “hometown discount” and Washington are going to want to keep him around to fill the seats with fans just to watch him pass Gretzky especially if the team is going to be on the decline for a the next couple years

  10. Nah, not gonna happen/ The Caps are done. And not to be depressing but Ovie at this point is kinda just the guy that shoots the puck from the left circle. If the Caps are gonna be winning and become a contender again it's not going to be because of him. They need to build around one or several other players and that's basically a rebuild so even if they did it would take too long for Ovie to have a shot at the cup. Honestly at this point I say just try and support him with decent talent, let him break the record, have a feel good moment and then rebuild.

  11. At this point I think Ovi’s career is gonna be just chasing the goal record and then retiring, he got his cup and now all he has left to do is break the record

  12. The Caps are going to be more competitive next season. Laviolette wasn't playing the young guys enough and the team lost a lot of man games due to injuries.

Spencer Carberry will definitely get more of the skilled players and revamped the Caps powerplay.

Plus the Caps can always resign the players with expiring contracts they traded, like Orlov, Gustafson and Hathaway, if they wanted.

  13. One cup in how many years? This is not a team, it is a supporting cast for an individual, nothing. Individually accomplishment without team success is failure.

  15. I stopped this video at 2:09 because as a (long time) Caps fan (since the Langway days) its just too painful to watch. This team is going to suck for years to come, much longer than any rebuild should take.
The current Caps team IS built for just one thing, getting Ovi that record and nothing else. And because of that, they're not going to be making the playoffs and it's also quite possible Ovi will not catch Gretzky in the next two years either.
Not that I have any say in it but, if I did I would've shipped all of the vets out for draft picks. And I would have done the kindest thing possible to Ovechkin, send him to a contender. He says he doesn't care about the record (maybe) all he cares about is winning one more cup. I'd give him that chance because it's not gonna happen in DC.
Unless he's here until he's in his 50s

  16. I don’t think so (hope I’m wrong); we have an aggressive GM who’s not going to wait around to be good. He recognized where we were early and started the retool. Also, Wilson is going NOWHERE! McLellan said after the season that he sees him as a lifer. He’s only said that about 2 other players and we know who they are. He’ll be the C after Ovi retires.

  17. Big caps fan, along with a lot of people watching this… I hope nothing bad happens and ovi gets another cup

  18. Been a caps fan my whole life (31 years) we won the cup and I can die happy. But now it’s about Ovi breaking the record and having his buddy’s be there with him (Backy, Carlson, Kuzy & Oshie)

  19. lets me real here. It's just been a bad year because caps had the most injuries out of any team.

  20. You need to open your eyes on that prick. Worst propagandist Sports has ever seen. He promotes war crimes FFS.

  21. die-hard caps fan — still think wilson is either top-caliber trade chip or the next captain. that said, totally agreed on almost all points here

  22. It’s a rebuild it’s gonna take time. They won’t be good for years that how it works

  23. Young skilled player? Mitch Marner? Hey Leafs he’s worth at least 2 first round picks and a Tom Wilson. Surely Marner would spoon feed Ovi’s Greasy Gretzky record.

  24. As a Caps fan, I so feel this.
We have good young options in the system.

Backy needs to retire. Kuzzy needs to be traded. Mantha… Ew

We're watching players who were here thrive.

It's time to finally bring in younger players with hunger into the fold.

Holding onto fan favorites like Oshie will only do so much.

  25. I can love him as a Hockey Player…but cant respect him anymore as a person…not as long as he continues to be a photo op or (even more) chum of Putin…and refuses to denounce what is going on…I am all behind Hasek on this one.

  26. All teams must at some point rebuild or retool and all teams go through a period of mediocrity surrounding that time its just how the game cycles

  27. They need to build for the future. They are an old team and to bring up young prospects and fit them into the lineup. They have 13 guys who are 30 or older. That's more than half the roster. How much longer will their older guys (Backstrom, Oshie, and Ovechkin) play? Build for the future now. If not, they're going to continue to miss the playoffs until changes are made.

Yes, it will be historic if Ovechkin breaks the scoring record, but that's not the only thing people should be focused. If it is, they will be continue to miss the playoffs and become a laughing stock like other teams are. But that's nothing new for the Capitals franchise as they were dog shit terrible when they joined the league.

  28. As a kid, Alex used to play hockey in their backyard with other kids. There was this manhole where the puck would fall in every now and then. True story so far. When Alex came for the lost puck, the clown would just give it to him without mentioning a word.
