Keefe may not be the best coach in the NHL, but who will replace him? Better to replace a few players first
Matthews and Marner are proven playoff duds. They've been awful every year of their careers in the playoffs. They're soft, they're completely unwilling to compete harder then the other teams top guys. They don't grind, win battles or sacrifice. Nylander has been solid in many playoffs, Tavares' contract is way too bad to ever get rid of and any other coach on any other team would be let go at this point.
If baby mitch is still on this team next year im taking a break from the leafs until he's gone and I dont care how long it takes either. Plenty of good canadian teams to watch instead.
I think the past week has shown that Shanahan was planning to keep the current roster (including Dubas) and focus on building a tougher defense.
One player of the core four was on the ice for 6 goals for and 11 against. This “playoff performer” was a net negative and yet all I see online is you can’t trade this player because he was so good in the playoffs. Are Leafs fans really this dumb? You cannot win in the playoffs with players that are nearly outscored 2 to 1 with them on the ice.
Enough. That’s the reason the team doesn’t win in the playoffs every year. Any player that contributes to positive GF% is an upgrade over this player. It doesn’t matter if you provide offence but your defensive analytics are near the bottom of the league.
Take off the rose colored glasses already. You cannot win in the playoffs with “playoff performers” like this.
Nylander has to be traded. He simply cannot return if Leafs are serious about winning a cup. His atrocious numbers should speak for itself yet the dialogue around this player is completely backwards.
Marner led the team in playoff points and forwards in goal differential. Those are the types of players you can actually win with. Look at the best players on Vegas and some of the goal differential stats they are putting up.
Why do you think they are in the final?
Because their players score more goals than they allow the opposition to score.
Take away Justin Holl and Nylander and the Leafs look very different in the playoffs this year. Two defensive black holes removed from the team. Defence wins in the playoffs.
Bad goals against are deflating to a team. It’s hard enough to score and win in the playoffs but when you have a leaking ship you have no freaking chance of winning anything.

From a lifelong, diehard Wings fan that loves seeing Toronto lose: You need to fire Keefe (need someone with pedigry that will push the team), and trade Mathews for a kings ransom if you want to have a chance at establishing an actual contender. Marner and Nylander carry you so much in the playoffs, you lose either and you take a significant step back. Tavares is hot or cold in the playoffs but more consistent than Mathews – you also need to keep Schenn…..but you won't do any of that and that's ok because Shanahan made a terribly bad emotional decision and is holding on to his core for dear life.
Adding new players for the playoffs wouldn't help the Leafs to win in the playoff. How do you expect New players coming in for a short term to give their heart and soul? The players bleeding blue would give their effort to win. Dubas got rid of players who were passionate about the Leafs. Mathews is here for money and his heart is somewhere else.
No team can win a cup paying Tavares 11 mil. You need to pay to get him out
They could de-emphasize the core players if they didn‘t earn almost 40mio 😂 what is that statement? That‘s literally why they earn 8 times as much as the bottom 6 players
They need change with the top 4
The Leafs will keep the core and wait for Tavares's contract to expire and use that cap space for other players. I don't expect the Leafs to sign back Tavares after his contract is up.

Imagine being a support, underpaid, player on the Leafs that has to work harder cause the core 4 doesn't want the pressure.
Quick 2 million players play better than Mathews with his 11plus salary and 55 million in endorsements !

I don't understand why Matthews would have immunity to trades when he is a player who wants to line his pockets first, then hope to win the cup with whatever is left over. He has shown his true allegiance – HIMSELF! And he has shown that he just isn't built for playoff hockey.
I would be happy to move Matthews and replace him with two 7 million dollar players, neither as talented as Matthews, but it would spread out the top talent to the 2nd or 3rd lines.
The entire concept of "we want to de-emphasize our four best players" is so bafflingly insane, it could have ONLY come from the Toronto sports universe. 😂😂😂
Nylander out for a bona-fide legit #1 RD, so Reilly isn't stuck playing with Luke Schenn in a decisive Playoff game because "he's the best option". It's crazy.
Well it haven’t worked for the last eight seasons. So might as well try for the next eight seasons. If it’s broken no point fixing.
