I wish I could get paid to come up with dumb trades.

This trade seems like a fair exchange. But no chance the Rangers accept this. Laf is still riding the hype of a #1 pick and could certainly fetch more than a useful cap casualty
OrcaBoi
I’ll take it

Interestingly, this is a NYR reporter. So it’s ‘slightly’ more credible than some random Canucks reporter fishing for clicks.
That said, I don’t see any universe where this happens. Obviously it would be a no-brainer for us though (even assuming additional minor assets added). It would be pretty cap-neutral though. Garland at 50% retained and Laf’s new deal would end up at around the same hit as just keeping Garland.

Staple is pretty well connected in NY but there’s no way this is happening without moving picks surely lol. But it’s interesting that there’s at least one team out there that needs a player like Garland. He put Garland at the top of his Rangers trade targets list, I wonder if he’s heard something or just going by what the team needs

Garland is a very good 5 on 5 player. I don’t get why our fans undervalue players like him so much. It’s as if everyone has value to us until they get a contract.

If they’re sure they’re done with Lafreniere, I could see how they would be open to something like this. I’d pull the trigger on this yesterday if I’m the Canucks.
Bryn79
More likely Garland retained, a high pick (next years second?) and a good prospect which is a lot for a gamble.

Why do I have the feeling this is going to get twisted into “Canucks fans think they can get Lafreniere for Garland” by end of the weekend.
nihilism_ftw
Garland straight up for Laf would be a good gamble IMO, but I’m not a big fan of retaining

Build a statue outside of the arena of PA if this gets done.
I don’t say that because Garland is a bad player, but because we’re over the cap with absolutely no leverage and the return could be Lafreniere? That’s a Benning level move from NYR, but hey it’d be nice for those to work out for us for once 🤠
TheOdiin
I would easily take that
Chaddikt
I highly doubt this trade is even possible
BeastMasterWithAnR
Lafreniere is only 21 years old. I can’t see them giving up on him that fast.

This is a joke, Right?

Tbh if I was Vancouver I would totally take that trade. Laf is still so young. If he gets a real shot at playing 1st line he might finally become the player he’s expected to become.
But looking at what people are saying here I’ll get downvated to oblivion.

Canucks who have no cap, and too many wingers. Retain cap on a winger, for a winger they would have to sign (I think). I doubt either team would do this

Ahh, I see you too play chel franchise mode with easy trade difficulty as well

Why would the canucks ever trade Garland and retain salary when he’s only overpaid by about 1mill anyways.
